    Show us your Specialized

Spec had their own 2.5" tyre, the Ground Control More Extreme. Not sure if it was a true 2.5" tyre but not what we see as 2.5" tyres nowadays. They weren't lying though.

    26" tanwall tyres

NOS amberwalss are out there if you look & not always mega expensive. For me the right tyres are the key to a good retro build. A lot of the modern tyres are waay too tall in the sidewall & just look plain wrong on our old frames.

Shogun Prairie Breaker Team issue 1991 ish

Yes that one. Flashback to 12 years old! It's a cool looking bike. I really dig'd Tioga stuff back then too.

    Which wheels are better?

Are the Fulcrum Quattro's a carbon rim? I have the Quattro carbon wheels, I find them fantastic in the wind compared with typical low height wheels. Even in cross winds they are affected less than my other wheelsets. Modern aero optimised wheels are damn good ime. The AC3 brake track offers...

Rust pinhole on chain stay bridge, just how goosed am I?

Some frames don't have a bridge at all, it's not structural as such, merely something to screw mudguards to. If it really bothers you, a good framebuilder could swap in a new one but will roast the paint finish in that area.

Changing rear derailleur pivot bolts - tips.

I put the 5mm allen key in the vice, that will hold the allen key & one less hand required. I then rotate the sprung assembly around & push over the 'E' clip. Thank me later.

    Wanted Hanebrink LT-8’s…….

Google brings up a few previous threads on here https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/retro-forks-zzyzx-hanebrink-stratos.264503/ https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/hanebrink-forks.238531/

    Wanted Hanebrink LT-8’s…….

I'm sure when I worked at SJS (Thorn) back in the early part of the millennium, we ordered in a set of Hannebrink forks to test on a tandem. We rode it a couple of times, racked up a limited few miles & then parked it. A lad I know that was a bit of a downhiller at the time ended up buying...

    New (Old) Specialized Hardrock Sport

If I was a guessing man (I am now) I'd say 92. The boffins on here will be able to decode the serial number & tell you it's production date & more likely a browse at the Specialized catalogues will tell you the model year it was on sale. Often bikes are made late in the year for the following...

Best Marin steel frame from the 90's is?

I have what I think is a 95 Team Marin. It's got the own branded tube set (I forget the name on the sticker, it doesn't say Tange or Prestige) but it is very thin walled & twangs nicely just like my Orange Prestige frameset. It doesn't strike me as a much-loved specimen of Marin, as it is post...

    Job interview

I once had an interview for a sales job, it was going quite well until the guy asks a fun little question; What's half of ninety nine and a half? .... .... .... Cue a bunch of wrong answers. Most people I ask get it wrong. So I don't feel so bad. If you Google Top 10 Interview Questions...

    1993 Trek 7000

That'll be bigger than 27.2 surely? Quite a chunky frame & 27.2 is rather slim though the industry std nowadays. A good bikeshop should have a seatpost sizer, like a graduated cone with sizes marked on the insertion points.

    Job interview

Yes, be yourself. These guys want someone they can spend all day around. A little giggle in an interview is fine. No need to be up tight. We had a new starter begin in my office yesterday, he's already having a laugh with us & talking candidly with us. He'll fit in well. Just what we needed.

New chains and cassettes, factory grease

The std coating is a rust inhibitor. It is horrid stuff, particularly on Shimano chains. De-grease it away if you can find a degreaser that will be effective on it. Or brake cleaner/TF90.

In your opinion what is the deal with those Marin dropouts? They don't seem original

No it just isn't. I'd hazard a guess a previous owner wished it was a Marin & thought it was pretty close to badge it up as one & dream. Stays aren't round enough or fat enough. Dropouts obv not signature cast Marin ones, cable routing/stops not right either.

Turn the frown upside down! Retro goldmine!

Of all the forums I used to frequent, this one is a blatant survivor. Seems like social media killed off most of them incl the owners clubs they were associated to. Long may it continue, this is such a wonderful community with a really helpful bunch of people onboard, RB really is one in a...
