Having the cable stops on the top of the tube gives the frame the high or low end brake option 👍 Your frame with the Vitus rear dropouts is the same as this French market one just with different fork crown 👍
Looks like it's a Gran Sport 12 frame with the window lugs and Vitus rear dropouts though divers bell instead of full cable guides. The fork looks to be for the Competition 12 or Rapide models, does it have Vitus dropouts ?
Raleigh started using the Shimano Positron index shifting on their Merlin and Misty roadsters back in 1979👍

Yeah, bit pointless really with that giant chainring to tighten it up... perhaps they had to look busy doing stuff for the camera... when in doubt get the hammer out..🔨🔨🔨👍
The pros would finish off with tape as extra security just incase the melted plastic come unstuck, wouldn't want it unraveling mid sprint. If you don't want tape showing go for clear or double sided tape or glue it 👍
Benotto tape is supposed to look slick and smooth, not awkward and bulky, it amazes me how so many beautiful machines are let down on the finishing touches. Bitd you would have never seen a professional rider with the plug over the tape, the plug was designed to be taped over from bottom to top...
Beautiful machine, the triangulated space frame design is incredibly strong and stiff, virtually eliminates any bottom bracket flex when putting down the power. I've got the low end version, the Pylon version is well over 10k 👍
Probably from 1980, date code is on the stem. I've got the same bars, stem and brake levers on my Raleigh SBDU Special but missing one of the Raleigh Forged stem decals. Good pub bike with early Shimano piano wire index shifting 👍
Found them on eBay for £40, had been fitted but not used. Think they came from Planet X, made in Taiwan CNC lightweight with titanium bolts, weight is around 200g. Seen others with different brand names and also steel bolts.👍...
