    Do it all bike.

Croix de Fer? :) The brake won't be a problem for a rack as long as you get the right rack.

That would help :) How about a Singular Peregrine? http://www.singularcycles.com/shop/inde ... grine.html Built for drop bars, clearance for 29x2in tyres, or 37mm+mudguards. Retro looks. Disc brake only, which you may or may not want.

    Helmets Save Your Bonce

BMW managed to negotiate exemptions in a number of countries, though. I suspect that the fact they didn't manage to do so in enough is why they didn't sell many. That and the fact that they looked stupid :)

Yes, the rims are the same diameter, although the sort of rim that's good for a 23mm tyre won't be so hot for a 2.3in one.

    Helmets Save Your Bonce

The whole point of the C1 was to not require a helmet, hence the roll cage, side bars and seatbelt (and front crumple zone). In several countries you didn't need to wear a helmet to ride one. Here you did, but I think it's forgivable for buyers to believe that you didn't given BMW's stated...

    Helmets Save Your Bonce

Fair enough. Presumably the fact that they were there but not worn is what counts as "contributory negligence", so it's still not quite the same situation -- bikes don't have built-in helmets, you have to go out of your way to get one. Also fair, I may have over-extended my point there :)

    Helmets Save Your Bonce

I believe that the suggestion is made precisely because it's bizarre and clearly nonsensical, in an effort to illustrate the almost equally nonsensical concept of forcing cyclists to wear them.

    Helmets Save Your Bonce

The rather important difference there is that you're required by law to wear seatbelts in a minibus if it has them.

    Helmets Save Your Bonce

At a societal level, it makes more sense than for cyclists to wear them. Passengers in cars would benefit greatly also. Not sure why people feel the need to pick on cyclists as needing to wear helmets particularly. I'm aware of the limitations of helmets. Recognising those limitations, I...

    Blatant begging

Afternoon all, On Friday morning I'm going to roll off a ferry in St Malo and attempt, in the company of one other rider (plus a couple of others intermittently) to ride 480km in one hit. On the road -- I'm not completely bonkers. We're aiming to trace out the shape of a REALLY BIG ermine spot...

If you've got an iThing it's worth downloading the free copy of the first issue :) (I'm feeling old because I found my notes for the 15th anniversary retrospective on my PC a few weeks back...)

    earliest 'v-brake' design?

True. V-brake-esque linear actuation, though, rather than a straddle wire. Although it's pushing the arms apart rather than pulling them together. I'm sure I've seen a pic of some old Honda moped from the 70s with what's very much a V-brake on it, but I can't find that one now.
