Sunday night pub quiz - Frame identification.

Looks like an unbranded alloy frame available from a few sources (inc Greyville iirc) around 2000 - in this blue or a bright red. We used to build them up rigid as hybrids for small riders on 26s

    Xtr m95x crank questions

You could measure the axle outside diameter and the cup internal diameter and see if there's a cartridge bearing that would fit in there... but I'd be surprised🤞

Raleigh SBDU 1977 in exceptional unrestored original condition!!🤔

Looks like pain gauge stainless spokes, stamped head, so probably recent wheel build? The whole bike looks like it's recently built tho. Ebay seller with feedback of 1?

    Xtr m95x crank questions

I didn't know the TA spider was the same fit - is it dimensionally perfect or just ok? It's unusual for one manufacturer to directly copy another's standard due to copyright issues - hence the end of shimano headsets with the arrival of Ahead.

Stuck BB removal options - *Update* It’s Out!

The bb should tap out from the nds now - you've just got a Friction fit into the alloy Cup. You could soak it in light oil first, but I doubt you'd need to. Some bbs the drive side thread is part of the body, but they are all steel, so not what you've got here.

Help!! Is my Sestpost long enough?? 🤕

That's not ok from my perspective. I've seen so many aluminium framed bikes broken at the top of the seat tube, often with more insertion than this. (I've repaired dozens of steel frames, but aluminium ones go in the scrap. ) You'll get away with it if it's a showpiece, but in regular hard...

Best vintage rear derailleur (thats fairly easily available) for friction

Let us know if it happily handles a large rear sprocket over 28t👍 I always thought the body was the same short and long cage, just greater total capacity.

    chain waxing

I've just waxed my £60 connex chain - what a pita. I think the difference in longevity will be down to cleaning it thoroughly in the parts washer. My aerospace friends don't think wax is fluid enough for the application in chain rollers. But it won't pick up dirt like a liquid. So next time...

Best vintage rear derailleur (thats fairly easily available) for friction

Before about 1990 shimano Road dérailleurs struggled with rear sprocket over 27t and long cage was a necessity for a triple. Basically if you want a decent range, you'll need mtb. M730s are great, but I love the Deer Head m700 - a charming investment piece i tell myself.
