    Olden days canti help

I'm setting up some Dia Compe 1980s cantilevers and there's no adjustment on the spring tension to help centre the brakes. What was the Olden Days method to do this, or should I just shuffle the pads in the canti clamps to compensate? NB: Frame & fork only have one canti spring hole so I can't...

Help me ID the Dale please

    On second inspection I think it's 52007904941 5 = rear dropout spacing 20 = frame size 0790 = production date 4941 = sequence number Which sounds about right - 1990 bike.

Help me ID the Dale please

Thanks, I'll do a bit of digging around the old catalogue archive. Red Shred sounds suitably arse about face seeing as it's blue.

Help me ID the Dale please

New acquisition. I'm not very au fait with Cannondale so can someone give me a rough idea of vintage and model no please? The seatstay U brake suggests about 1990 to me but happy to be corrected.

    (Not) a Clockwork Orange?

That is all sorts of weird. I've no idea what it is. Canti front sus forks, which I've never seen before, with V-brakes. And gripshift.

Is there a market for reproduction parts?

I had a similar thought to the OP a few years ago. I think what sparked it was the mental price for PAUL components eg rear mech. I think someone talked me out of it because the market is vanishingly small. I mean let's say you did a faithful repro PAUL derailleur (marked/modified so that it...

    crap bikes - discuss...

Suppose we have to start by defining 'crap' - does this mean it fails to meet a bicycle's design brief? Supermarket bikes are meant to be cheap, so they've ticked that box. The things that are interesting to me are where they're not cheap but still manage to fail in some regard. The one that...

    1983 Peugeot VTT

Next jobs are to polish up the bits and fit it all together. It's got some nice period Suntour and Dia Compe bits, but I've decided to pimp it with some mid-80s indexed thumbies and quick release axles/skewers.

    1983 Peugeot VTT

Right well I'm making an effort on this one so here's some 'before' pictures to give some context. The bike is an 83 (or possibly 84 model) Peugeot mountain bike. Bought from a couple in Halifax who said they'd bought it in early 80s. Helpful chaps on here identified the frame number as an...

    Decals question

Does anyone know how I can get decals for my Raleigh Technium? Currently doing up a 1983 Peugeot, I've had the frame powder coated and I've got decals to go onto it - sourced the right ones no problems. I'd like to do the same for my 1990 Technium which needs some paint but I can't find...

Bright ideas for spreading dropout - not widening OLN?!

I've used a car jack before for this. Go steady, gently does it, a bit at a time then measure.

Mystery 80s Peugeot - pic heavy

Thanks for this. I didn't know Araya made frames? Is there any more info about their tubesets etc? I guess it matches with the Ishiwata fork, both being Japanese. Excuse my ignorance, but what is "VTT"?

Mystery 80s Peugeot - pic heavy

Thanks for this, useful info. Regarding the 1984 catalogue, it is a close match to the Canyon Express. However the frame specs say TIG/pulse welded. This is definitely brazed/lug construction. It's also light silver not dark grey. I have some more clues. Frame number ARYG 329376. If a bit of...
