Is crank bent or the BB?

Cottered cranks can be wonky on the spindle, sometimes caused by poor alignment or size/cut of the cotterpin. Take it all apart and reassemble it with new cotters. There are 3 sizes of pin, and the depth of cut can vary too. Google yourself up to speed or pay someone who's already there. But...

    Inappropriate brand/model names

BotM! Not only is that blessed with a magnificent name, both Hubris and Double Entendre, but ... look at that groupset, and accessorisation, ye mighty, and despair! @sheppf1000 can you extend the gift of retrobike membership to this magnificent gentleman (it's not a ladies bike after all is...

Tricky stump removal- any pointers ?

The 440 is extremely capable🤠 20" bar normally, 30 if I'm in amongst the big boys, although that's pushing it in terms of power output and manageability. I'm not happy dealing with a trunk that's wider than my bar is long, so to speak. 🤔 Hence the large tool... I've got a ripping bar and...

    Humanity's 10 greatest inventions: the other 9?

Surely we all know the bicycle is an incredible thing. In the Sunday Times poll (for new year edition y2k) of the greatest inventions of the 20th century, the bike polled 30% of the vote - streets ahead of anything else. What else would you include? I'm not sure Antibiotics count as an...

Tricky stump removal- any pointers ?

An invitation to a stihl-waggling competition😃 My ms440, slightly more powerful than my 1st motorbike😍 Keeping a p7 company. I wouldn't wave it near roots though, I have already discovered how long it takes to resharpen a 30" chain after catching a stone or even grown-over fencing wire😭

Paint is middling at best Precisa fork could cost £200 - so frame in that condition 350-400? Most of that groupset you'd struggle to sell atm. Those bonded alloy Forks were quite common, not worth a lot. It looks a lot like a similar bike that would be worth £1200 plus - I think I spent a bit...

Marin 90s BB / chainline question

Those octalinks supported the fatter tyre at the expense of chainline. It seems worse if fitted on early mtbs - shorter chainstays increasing the angle perhaps? Often you have to fit all the spacers on the nds if using ht2 on 90s mtbs, and sometimes that's not enough.

    Crank road to mtb

Might need a longer bb to clear the stay and the tyre otherwise square taper is much more adaptable road/mtb than modern ht2 and similar

Marin 90s BB / chainline question

If that setup was working on one 68/135 bike (same 28.6 seattube?) Then it will work the same on the other... although... You might find that the drive side bb axle projection on the 107 and 113 are the same, so the only change would be crank/stay clearance on the NDS. Alloy frames have fatter...
