Copper grease isn't necessary, and it's toxic. Steel to steel non-moving parts is acceptable. There's a certain style of bike owner overkeen with the copper though.

Makeup is an interesting idea. Some animals decorate their den with pretty things to help attract a mate, but I can't think of any that decorate themselves. Some puff up or change colour, like a toad or a turkey, but that's not the same.
