Early '70s Gitane Country CX (tentative build thread)

I bet that was fun. Have had to do similar myself before now, I've used a balljoint splitter for a car and a big hammer but on that occasion I wasn't worried about keeping the BB cups or the crank arm, effective though

Early '70s Gitane Country CX (tentative build thread)

I think a lot did have English pedal threads by then but from memory the tool needed to get the crank arms off on some of them is specific to Stronglight isn't it? Thanks on the Meral but pleased as I am with it the fact its made with Columbus and not Vitus irks somewhat, I've got a Navarro...

Early '70s Gitane Country CX (tentative build thread)

Good to hear and If you already know all the below completely ignore me. I suspect said previous owner has been marched off into the desert with a company of the French Foreign Legion as punishment but I was thinking more about threads and diameters like the pedal threads, cranktool threads, BB...

Early '70s Gitane Country CX (tentative build thread)

Always fancied one of those and its got the potential to be a very nice thing. Hang on to the idiosyncratically French bits though otherwise there may be a few Gallic shrugs when you get round to rebuilding it.

    Campag 9 Speed Cassette Types

Thanks for that. I'll have to have a look through the manuals I have and can find online to see if I can work out how to space them. I've done it mixing Shimano cogs and Campag spacers using the info on Sheldons browns site about cog and spacer thickness to get 8 speed Campag brifters to work on...

    Campag 9 Speed Cassette Types

This has been very interesting and informative gents and has lead me to another question. is the sprocket thickness and spacing the same for both the old and new 9 speed cassettes? Going through my parts box yesterday I found a pair of early pre 99 brifters that I had assumed were 8 speed but...

    Joe Waugh Gold Medal 853

Re: Re: Yes paint in general looks more than good enough and if you got parts with the frame then you might as well use them as you can always look out for what you actually want to use on it over time. I do that with a lot with my builds, if I don't have what I want I'll build it anyway as a...

    Concorde Squadra

That's very nice and is crying out to be finished, I had a lesser Concorde a while ago that I liked very much but sadly it was too small for me so had to go. Lovely as it is the rear mech looks a little out of place to me though.

Oops, it followed me home honest it did. Late 80's Ken James

Some shiny and some blue things arrived in the post yesterday so I spent an enjoyable morning finishing this one. I even managed to get away with doing my assembly work indoors as I assured she who should be obeyed that as this one was all new it was all clean, the I mean you don't see McLaren...

cheap ebay chinese cork bar tape

Oops I wasn't clear. generally yes wrap from the bottom when using proper tape but I've found with this cheap non sticky stuff it's easier to keep taut if you wrap from the top and lock it into the end of the bar with the end plug.
