1990 Jack Taylor Tourist Tandem #8638 FINISHED pg7

I know nothing of tandems, but my instinct would be to keep the existing stack-height,, and use some spacer in the headset. Can we see the chainstay patch?

Fwiw this was all brush paint btw. The green, the orange, the cream. The last time this frame was sprayed(not by me)- the blue on the steerer upthread- was some time in the early nineties iirc.

New millenium, new bb shell, new paint.. although the new millenium must have been at least five years old when these pictures were taken. Somewhere in the interim had been my last chance to visit JD Whisker and buy some obsolete stuff: Dura-Ace bb, Tressostar, Modolo 919 hoods etc. Before the...

A few years back (really MUST stop painting this frame!) 42x16 with the rear wheel reverse-dished (really MUST stop rebuilding this wheel!) MKS Sylvans I bought over twenty years ago to replace the Gipiemmes, until I took pity on the Gipiemmes again and (re)renovated them. Likewise I bought...

    Rivola frame

Yeah I was all set up to query the '73.. then I saw the '72! Thanks. I have seen another period Italian machine with that internal-to-chainstay cable routing.. Vicini? I think we in the UK tend not to be aware of a whole load of Italian builders, beyond the obvious 'big names'..

Stronglight '99' chainrings without factory drillium are ideal candidates for bcd conversion- to 144mm in my case. Here's my home made centre for marking out the chainring, inside a34t granny ring, (which is obviouly too small for conversion to any other bcd) along with the chainring bolt...

Actually, a few years back I did do some filing/polishing and race-grinding on the Super Record pista headset that had been on the frame when I bought it in '84. I've retired that headset now. I felt that I wasn't too far from stripping the thread on the locknut.

The frame was decaled as a Shorter when I bought it secondhand outa the back of the comic in '84, but the number format is different from Shorter numbers I've seen since. Some of the stuff on it was bought with paper round money by me in the '70s- the saddle, pedals, bars and stem, chainset...

K75013R It is still on the steerer but no longer on the bb shell, because that shell was replaced around 1999. The old shell was 65mm. This one is 68mm Has been a few different colours over the years..

Does anyone know much about Harry Hall bikes?

Judging from the seat lug cluster, that one probably was built by Roger Kowalski.

    What retro bike?

Tour de France 1970? Your best bet: gears, brakes, chainset, hubs, pedals, seatpin, headset: Campagnolo Record/Nuovo Record. bars, stem: Cinelli 1a, Cinelli 64,65, or 66. Saddle: Cinelli Unica Nitor padded. Rims: Mavic sprints. Frame: Reynolds 531db or Columbus sl.

n+1, this time a steel one.

Tbh I don't know. I'd think that with the 21st century resurgence of fixed/single speed, bottom brackets to fit 65mm shells are available? Track bikes used to have 65mm shells. I don't know if they still do. Yeah don't worry about a bit of loose stuff in the top tube. Afaik it's actually a good...

Yes those fully sloping fork crowns are heavy. From the late Sixties up to the mid Seventies even Tours de France were won without bottle cage bosses. If this frame is 120mm at the back, I'm guessing it also has a 65mm bb shell, rather than 68mm?

I can't keep up with you, M_Chavez, your goalposts appear to be always moving, the one constant being your desire to turn retired racehorses into beasts of burden. Yes, you won't get more than a 5-speed block (or a Suntour Ultra 6-speed) into 120mm. Imo, regarding your second bottle cage, the...

I'd say that that frame is not much less of a 'stallion' than the other one- just a slightly older style one. If you're getting someone locally, at least make sure that they know what '531db' is and that they have experience of working with it- and remember, this could easily be 531db that's...

Any help in identifying vintage road bike frame?

I'd say it's an '8' beause the '3' stamp usually has a horizontal top stroke
