It is still on the steerer but no longer on the bb shell, because that shell was replaced around 1999. The old shell was 65mm. This one is 68mm

The frame was decaled as a Shorter when I bought it secondhand outa the back of the comic in '84, but the number format is different from Shorter numbers I've seen since. Some of the stuff on it was bought with paper round money by me in the '70s- the saddle, pedals, bars and stem, chainset. that stuff's all been filed, sanded, de-anodised, etc, over the years. I cut the quills off the pedals and the inner webs off the (original) chainrings pretty soon after I first bought them. I didn't do no drillium but I sure did some filium. The Campag stuff is sacrosanct in that respect though- you'd have to be braver than me to take a file or drill to it. I remember what the stuff used to cost!

Actually, a few years back I did do some filing/polishing and race-grinding on the Super Record pista headset that had been on the frame when I bought it in '84. I've retired that headset now. I felt that I wasn't too far from stripping the thread on the locknut.

Stronglight '99' chainrings without factory drillium are ideal candidates for bcd conversion- to 144mm in my case. Here's my home made centre for marking out the chainring, inside a34t granny ring, (which is obviouly too small for conversion to any other bcd) along with the chainring bolt spacers that are an inevitable fortuitous by-product of the procedure.

A few years back (really MUST stop painting this frame!) 42x16 with the rear wheel reverse-dished (really MUST stop rebuilding this wheel!) MKS Sylvans I bought over twenty years ago to replace the Gipiemmes, until I took pity on the Gipiemmes again and (re)renovated them. Likewise I bought those Shimano 600 calipers over thirty years ago to replace the Modolos because the threads on the pivot bolts were going- then a few years later I noticed what looked like a crack around the pad-slot on one of the 600 calipers, so I put the Modolo stirrups on the 600 pivot bolts.
The frame is in good alignment, but the rear brake hole is slightly off-centre towards drive-side.
