    Fork Identification...

Hi all, Picked up a late 80's / early 90's bike with Camus 779 tubes - the forks are from a different bike and I wonder if anyone has come across something like them before - very distinctive S embossed on the fork crown. Thanks in advance

What is this? MTB or Tourer!?

You can probably tell by the question that I'm not an MTB'er! I'm a long time retro roadie - and have limited knowledge on MTBs - anyway I've been looking for something to go light off-roading and saw this for £50. Shimano Altus / Alvio ?? 7 speed, mudguard and rack eyelets, forks look too...

    Barn Fresh.. Olympia

Re: At over 6'2" I can't look at anything less than 24" / 60cm framewise! Which does restrict you when finding older bikes, but then I find there are fewer people looking for them! Every cloud and all that!

    Barn Fresh.. Olympia

Re: You're probably right regarding the age - I was looking at the kit on it, which all looks original. The hubs are dated 1975 and rear derailleur dated 1977. I can live with late 70's early 80's!! I'm disappointed it's too small - it looks like a great ride.

    Barn Fresh.. Olympia

I get a call from a mate - he's snagged me an old bike from a garage conversion he's working on - I say great it might have a few useful bits on it! Turns out it's a mid 70's Olympia Carlo Borghi in not bad condition. I'd never heard of them before but apparently they're the second oldest...

MBK M563 Columbus EL - OS...

Hi, I'm a longtime retro roadie and haven't owned a MTB since the early '90s (Sorry!!). Anyway, I have a chance to buy the above mentioned bike (for £140) and having no idea on value wondered if it represents a good deal? As you can see it's in good overall condition but I don't know what the...

    Daniel Salmon Crimped Special...

Re: [Old Ned - By 'eck, that back end's tight! Do you have to deflate the tyre to get the wheel in and out? And the front fork rake is very short too. I bet it's a bit twitchy on the road.] The back wheel is a real tight fit! To be honest I've only given it a quick test ride but it feels...

    Daniel Salmon Crimped Special...

Hi all, Just picked up this Daniel Salmon with crimped tubing (main tubes, chainstays and seat stays) - not sure on what the tubing is but it's got a nice "ting" to it. The back tyre to seat tube clearance is miniscule and that's with a 23mm tyre. Components are a mix of Shimano 600 Tricolour...

    Simoni Barn Find..

Hi all, Just arrived - late 70's Simoni Cyclocross bike - I fancied something for the lanes and tracks. There is absolutely nothing on the net for Simoni - any info appreciated. It looks like a quality frame it's v. lightweight with Campag lugs and some nice braze ons. A nice range of...

    Pinarello ID help needed....

Re: If I can work out approx. year of manufacture it would narrow things down - the majority of Trevisos had painted rear triangle. Is it possible to narrow it down by the style of pantographs - I know they changed the font / style quite a few times - any info out there? Cheers

    Pinarello ID help needed....

Hi all, I'm trying to ID a mid 80's (I think!) Pinarello. There isn't a massive amount of info on the net - and I'm sure there are very knowledgeable people on here. The frame was originally blue and the only transfers are tatty columbus ones on the forks. 3 main tubes are Nickel plated. There...

    Thorn Audax Mk1 refurb

Re: That's a cracking job - never thought of Thorn being retro but they have been around for over 25 years - yours must have been quite an early one.

    Project Womble

Re: It's absolutely criminal what people throw away! I visit the tip quite regularly and there are always old bikes / wheels etc there - unfortunately, once stuff goes in they won't let it out. You obviously have an obliging fella working where you go! And you can't beat something for nothing!
