    chain waxing

Interesting. And important to note that the approach which I have been using through the crud, cold, sand, heat, rain and bleh of Thetford has been that latter approach - not hot waxing - really strip chain of grease and use MucOff Wet chain lube for motorcycles. I think brilliant stuff and the...

    chain waxing

Last week, a friend emphasised how much he had got into chain waxing. He took me through what he did, using an approach like this: https://zerofrictioncycling.com.au/wax-instructions/ I knew I had to give my chain a refresh, since it has done 4 years in the grind paste which is Thetford. So I...

HOPE - the mystery of the crank axle change revealed ....

I need a 68/73BB axle on purple (!) Hope 165 crankset which currently has an 83mm axle in it. No problem thought I, buy a new 133.5 axle from Tredz, buy a tool to go with it to remove the 'Do Not Remove' cap - and Rob's Your Lobster. When the tool arrives I undo the Do Not Undo cap and off it...

Silverfish 1995 Klein Adroit Night Storm

...I'm with you. In 1990 I bought a Klein and did a top end build .... did not like it. At all. Fast, rigid, accelerated like a fast thing. Rigid, harsh, beat me up. Back to steel for me at that point. AAAAhhhhhhhh .... Tange Prestige, Reynolds 853, forgiving, fast... nice.

Ti for things … like pedal axles.

Spot on. Carbon fibre very horrible for environment and for the workers although the industry is working on mitigation https://www.compositesworld.com/articles/mitigating-carbon-fiber-emissions-for-fabricators ...and toxicity in recycling...

Yikes - the slackest seat tube in the world? ….

hmmmm .... I am interested in this. I wantred steeper STAs in the 80s, knowing that this improved climbing DESPITE what most people claimed. But with a straight seat tube there's only so far you can steepen things without the tyre interfering with the lower section of the seat tube. Bendy seat...

Yikes - the slackest seat tube in the world? ….

And some of the designs such as the twin tube, allowed a very steep seat angle - something I liked at the time (70s) and have always strongly advocated for, and has now come to pass with West Coast geometry on Transitions etc. A current trend. Or, it turns out, not new at all...

Yikes - the slackest seat tube in the world? ….

interesting quite an uncommon price though ... gulp but always interesting to see the innovation which was actually there in the culture during the 30's-60's

The "I'm not doing so well" thread

Really sorry to hear of this added burden...very frustrating. I am not a medic but work with lots of people who are. A couple of things. My partner's heart (she's 58) has basically gone on strike. So a pacemaker fitted. But still the heart plays up. Reason I am mentioning this: COVID...

Risk ... the aims of mountain biking, the purpose, the vibe ...

Yes that issue of ‘worthwhile activity’ amongst young people is really important - pumptracks have been amazing for having a beneficial impact in communities including social mix. Digging can have the same beneficial effect. Slopestyle = slope (jump drops and berms) + style (jumps, whips, spins...

Risk ... the aims of mountain biking, the purpose, the vibe ...

Well the latest video out of the Rampage judging fiasco has tried to justify the mess which the event has become. I was always very sceptical of Rampage since although it was a showcase of extraordinary skills and deep commitment of the diggers, it seemed to be pushing elite athletes into crazy...
