Random Viscount Tourer - prob. parts bike

Todays pick up, and I admit that I only bought it due to some nice parts fitted which I can put aside for future builds: Main frame feels like it could be 531, forks feel heavier and lugs don’t match the frame so unsure if they’re original? Suntour dropouts on the rear, possibly on the front...

Cheers, I purposely parked this one up to wait for this exact groupset to show up. Just so lucky that the donor bike showed up where and when it did. The Peugeot was £15 so I figure I did really well. The paint on this has been done really nicely, I know it’s not to everyone’s taste on a vintage...

Cheers for the advice, just ordered some black tape - think you’re right.

More progress, I really lucked out with the spare or repairs sti’s I ordered. The left hand one was the one I needed and I managed to service it and get it working. The hoods on them are better than mine too so on those went. That really only left the cabling up to do which went really...

Some good progress over the bank holiday weekend. Got the original 8 speed cassette stripped and cleaned up, I like these ones that have 3 bolts which undo - you can take them right to pieces and get them 100% clean. Found a tyre and ordered another to match. Ambrosio bars and Profile stem from...

Had a chance to grab the Richards from the loft and sit it on its new wheels this morning. I’m also going to have a go at refurbing the special edition Turbo saddle which came on the Peugeot too. It’s in poor shape but I’m not expecting it to turn out mint and I don’t want to throw it away.

Got the hubs cleaned and serviced and built the wheels up today, had to replace some bearings in the rear hub and the MA rims took some cleaning but ready to go now. 👍

Good advice, I actually managed to scoop another pair of these sti’s off eBay yesterday afternoon. They were listed as parts/not working and described as ‘not ratcheting’ - I’m hoping I can make one good one out of the parts I have. In the meantime I might strip down some of the spare shifter...

Thanks so much for posting up that link @Jonny69, it inspired me to get the brifters stripped and investigate. They really aren’t too bad when you get in to them, both were hella gunked up with old grease but the left hand one had a broken pawl: To be fair that one was the worst cosmetically...

Sadly the frame is way beyond repair, it’s dented on the down tube and seat stay and the rear stays are bowed too. It’s also very rusty, very rusty. I managed to remove the forks despite a seized stem bolt by carefully sacrificing the stem. I think the forks are ok if anyone needs them? 👍
