Nah, then she'd have parked her bike the other way around. ;)

Very nice! A rare machine. One year only, I think. And only available in smaller sizes. 😟

A much lovelier feeling than the cover of the 1925 Triumph catalogue. I am trying to imagine them having a nice conversation, but not succeeding. For her sake I hope that's his tombstone on the '34 cover. 😐

Dark humour from the early 20th century. Bruno Paul in the German satirical magazine Simplicissimus. "Wow, this road is bad!"

My favourite is Walter Molino. Nobody captured the drama quite like he did. Roger Rivière's crash during the descent of the Col de Perjuret in 1960, which would cripple him and end his career: Stan Ockers' fatal 1956 crash in Antwerp:

The first picture is by Jan Lutz, a Dutch illustrator and cartoonist. Here's a book cover he did. Gotta love the grim reaper shadow:

Mystery frame - retro road bike

I just dug up a few pictures of a Venturelli I once owned, and there are similarities:

Racing Cyclist Nicknames (it's a long list)

Ah, yes. From the days when anyone with a pair of glasses would be called "professor". Or "four-eyes", if you weren't liked very much.

Mystery frame - retro road bike

The finish of that Romani, and the other Romanis I've seen, is at another level. Also, the BSA threading of the BB makes Italian production unlikely. I am leaning towards a Belgian frame, with - possibly - a replacement fork. Are there any markings on the steerer?

Nice! A very clean build, in every sense of the word.

Mystery frame - retro road bike

Thanks for this. Much appreciated! There were (and are) a number of relatively large shops in Belgium that supplied unbranded frames to local bike shops in Belgium, Holland and apparently in the UK as well. Frames made by Flandria, Superia, Dija, Vaneenooghe and Martens made their way to...

A Giant Custom Superlite. "Painting" would be saying too much, but I did empty a rattle can in its vicinity.

When you acquire a lot of parts donor bikes you inevitably end up with many parts that are too modern for your own projects, but also too good to just throw away. One day you find have enough to build a modern-ish bike for your girl. :) The black chainset and rear derailleur I bought new...

Mystery frame - retro road bike

The down tube decal is from a Gazelle, but this is definitely not a Champion Mondial. Or a Gazelle, for that matter. Generic but decent mid-range frame from the eighties. Repainted, by the look of things. The forks may or may not be original. Maybe Italian, but it could also well be Belgian.

Full size folding bikes are rare, and nice ones even rarer. I had been looking for one for ages, and when this Bridgestone Grandtech GR-27 came up for sale I jumped at it. I had recognized it immediately, as it is featured in Michael Embacher's Cyclopedia, my favorite restroom literature. It...

This Huissoon came up for sale last year on a local bicycle trekking forum. Nobody there was remotely interested, it sat there for a while, and when the seller dropped the price to €100 and still no one responded, I decided to put them out of their misery and pick it up. The Daytona group set...

The ride quality is pretty much equal, I'd say, in my use cases. But I like the look of the Grand Bois better. The 28mm Vittoria Corsa G2 Graphene blabla, BTW, is also a very nice tire which has served me well on a few Eroica rides. I'd also put those on my Gazelle without hesitation. While I'm...

I have used them on several of my resto-modded light touring bikes as they are quite nice for the, well, strade bianche. And yes, they are 700 x 30C. Don't care much for the loud graphics, though. Here's another one. A 1985 Koga-Miyata Randonneur, which came to me as a well-abused frame set in...
