    Ernie Clements build thread

Great info thanks, yes I can confirm it had no rivet holes for head tube badge, I will use a 1" seat tube and a shim due to 'gronk' that survived the dipping process. ;-) I have some period suntour parts from a similar age Carlton including centre pulls, need to measure tubing for some cable...

Pwebb's Lee Cooper built Sirius 853, build thread here: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/grail-853-restoration-and-build-thread.474653/ This was originally yellow ( when I dismantled it it had the original writing from the frame builder indicating frame 8148 and colour lemon...

...3 weeks later and I collected the frame from Cyclone on Friday... a dip, sand blast, powder coat and gloss finish later this is an incredible transformation IMHO

frame cleaned up and ready to go off to Cyclone... ...are those some of the thinnest dropouts you ever saw? no rear mech hanger either. there also no seams on the inside of the seat tube so I conclude this is a butted 531 frame - it feels as though it could be 531 SL

...stripped down and examined thoroughly no cracks, damaged threads or other horrors - just a badly pitted frame that has been unloved for a good amount of time. salvaged most of the parts that are serviceable, pedals were fused to the cranks and had little or no ball...

New to Campagnolo Groupo - Help please

NB campy square taper BBs are longer and thinner at the square ends than shimano so stick with Campagnolo crankset unless changing the BB aswell. Nice bike btw

that vestigial (non) seat tube is certainly a curiosity - good for an impromptu game of quoits too.

    NOS M700 Deerhead groupset

a piece of history to be sure but in practice only the brake levers were robust enough IMHO, on my 1984 bike these components disintegrated pretty rapidly and I have memories of dismantling those shifters repeatedly to try to get them to work again, still have the brake levers though...

    Bergsieger build thread

shakedown ride this morning - shifting is working aok despite some >40 year old parts and ratchet shifters are still sublime. this thing rides like a giant MTB and is as tall as a dutch cruiser on 28" rims. clunker style with some stance , comfortable enough to cruise...

this turned out ok, decided to keep it retro not restomod and so plumped for genuine 80s Nitto bull moose, suntour ratchet shifters and deerhead mech , plus a period chainset. New square taper BB and 1" threaded headset, but went for new cables and tyres as modern tubeless...

    The Eagle Has Landed 🦅

if someone paid this person £750 in the past for a 531 replica then they were probably encouraged to cobble together another hasty abomination in the hope of an equally lucrative deal. I am surprised they bother to include close up shots of the poor finish and cheapo modern components...
