    what if...?

some of us oldies of a particularly stubborn disposition made a decision early on to eschew suspension forks, press-fit anything and especially disk brakes. mind you, at the same time, I wouldn't go back to cotter pins, there is still progress after all. same goes for cars, automatic...

so is this a gravel bike too? - seen here getting dirty on a recent Monsal Head outing ... ...and before I restored it, in near original 1980s spec with deerhead groupo and enough clearance for fat 700C tyres I looked at it as more of an early cyclo cross bike tbh but it...

its a great combination , but finding nice old steel framesets with canti bosses and decent tyre clearance is actually pretty hard

    Surly Cross Check Project Thread

Oddly works just fine without front derailleur, apart from getting dirty fingers of course, I am not finding I need granny ring on the road and off road don't need big chainring, small small works ok due to big spring and clutch on rear mech, not too slack at all. Probably wouldn't work with a...

    Surly Cross Check Project Thread

still evolving but fairly settled on 2 x 9 I will try 3x9 with a front derailleur before I finalize this build , seems Surly geometry will tolerate quite a range of chainlines and chainset combos and as long as I stick with 'standard' Shimano cable pull I am finding...

I think this counts - didn't set out to build as 'gravel' just evolved that way - it is still WIP

Croll R753 withe some VGC Record Titanium bits

Its a well spec'd and unusual bike at a sensible price - will make a smooth ride for someone down south. Looking at this person's other lots, looks like they are giving up all their hobbies up all at once - oh dear :-(

For Sale 1987 Overbury, £250 / €300, based in the Netherlands

lovely original spec cross fell/peak finder - unusual to see the nitto stem and original pedals still intact as well as thumbies - looks to be in really good condition too - good luck with sale, there are plenty of enthusiasts on this forum - just need to find a tall person

    Adidas Velosamba's

£41 on Fraser's website = wiggle/chain reaction etc. tbh I think there are better shoes for less outlay, including Adidas five ten brand ( for example)

    Catalogue 1985 Overbury's Catalogue

interesting to see 1995 prices - I paid £399 for a peak finder in 1984 after working and saving all summer to buy it. The first bike I paid for with all my own money and my dad thought I was mad at the time ( I was only earning £65 a week). In those days everything was sent by post...

    92 Diamond Back Axis LARGE

Nice bike shame about the vbrakes and saddle, I will be amazed if it makes £300 though. More importantly, what or who is in the green bin requiring mains power? I think we need to know!

    Bargaintastic Deer Head rear mech

about as durable as chocolate IIRC my 84 Overburys was fitted with same, lasted a few short years before needing to be replaced, though not as bad as the solid axles of same era that snapped every other ride.
