    Lava Dome ('91) comfortable commuter

Sunday morning was spent on the bike, doing a couple of hours loop to get out of the urban area and into the countryside. With the addition of mudguards and swapping the saddle for a Brooks B15 (where have you been all my life??) it was a really nice morning.

    Lava Dome ('91) comfortable commuter

Yes indeed they are M5, I'm using 16mm long which is longer than necessary. I also have one holding a P-clip in place at the back as a cable guide with what I think is an M4*12 bolt on the eyelet. One detail I should mention in using v brakes was I ran the cable outer the full length from lever...

    Lava Dome ('91) comfortable commuter

Thanks folks - yes I feel quite lucky with how well the decals are holding up, and the paint responded well to the polish (Maguire's Ultimate Compound, and Autoglym Super Resin, then Collinite Doublecoat wax). @Imlach I totally agree with the black stealth look and have it with a black seatpost...

Sorry It's another Kona Lava Dome

Very nice! I'll be watching this one as I'm doing a similar restoration at the moment for myself - really like the black early Konas, the decals go well with the gloss paint.

    Lava Dome ('91) comfortable commuter

Having recently picked up a lovely Kona Lava Dome from @cda (thank you!), I thought it would make a great ride for around town and commuting. Starting with a really nice frame, and some original parts that I will restore as well as I can. Some parts are not original and will be replaced with my...

Kona Kula 2000 - New member, first build thread

Thanks for checking this out. The build photos are at the bottom of page 5 - I would say finished but I've got the new dropper lever and cable to sort that, but as I'm (hopefully) moving house soon this one is wrapped up safely in bubble wrap to prevent it getting scratched! Fortunately my next...

Kona Kula 2000 - New member, first build thread

Thanks! @eric_james yeah I think I'll go with a clear vinyl strip, and hopefully the clutch on the derailleur will help keep the chain tight enough to stop most of the knocks

Kona Kula 2000 - New member, first build thread

All done! Well, as much as these things ever are! The paint comes out quite bright in the daylight and the decals on the fork match the frame perfectly. Really looking forward to taking it out on and see how it handles on the trails. There's a couple of things I may change once I've ridden...

Kona Kula 2000 - New member, first build thread

@JERider That's cool - I'd say Marzocchi forks are a great choice and the ones you have are the original Zokes 500? Assuming yours is a 1994 as it matches the one in the catalog at https://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/Manufacturer+Archive/Kona/Catalogues/Kona+Catalog+1994.pdf.html I recommend...

Kona Kula 2000 - New member, first build thread

Nice! I've seen the gold ones and they look awesome. Have you posted photos on a thread anywhere? @JERider Mine has been delayed by some things - including needing new parts (silly me for choosing ispec brake levers that didn't leave room for a normal shifter!) and making some time to get...

    Show us your Diamond Backs!!!

ne isn't top of the range but I love it - Topanga from around 91/92/93? Not been able to match the paint, decals, and fork thickness to anything in the catalogs yet. Bought as a frame only and built up using spare parts. I had it set up as a wide range 7 speed (on an 8 speed cassette), anyway...

    Specialized alu single speed

Nice! Looks awesome with the raw frame and matching Manitou forks - really cool build. You've got me considering a single speed setup now!

Kona Kula 2000 - New member, first build thread

Some great progress on the Kula recently with some parts arriving - I really love it and have been able to sit on it now the wheels are on and it is ace. Perfect fit and feels like I'll be able to chuck it around, and the Hope hub sounds really nice. I was able get the original forks back on...
