    1991 Kona Black

FYI I use these to protect my chainstay and top tube from chain / cable rub. Cheap and effective. And black! So after you touch up those scratches you could use these to prevent further damage.

    1991 Kona Black

+1 A standard gloss black modelling paint from humbrol / revell / Tamiya will work for that Give the top tube a polish with T-cut or similar, will smarten it up

    Salsa a la Carte 1991

Living the early 90's MBUK dream... One of the reasons I got the a la Carte was to do a race on it. Seeing all those pictures of JMC racing his Salsa was an inspiration. Today was the day! 56km / 35 mile race. Dirt and gravel single track. I had a blast. Great fun. This bike rides like a...

Front facing seatpost clamps - eg on a Dogs B.

My 1993 white spider has a sunk clamp bolt. The seat collar is threaded on one side and the bolt clamps to that. Pretty sure DB is similar, but don’t know for sure.

    Salsa a la Carte 1991

The bike came fully assembled and although I will use some of the components, the first step was a full strip down. At the same time enjoying a huge high feeling of actually owning something so iconic (to me at least). Aside from the overall great condition, and originality of the stem &...

    Salsa a la Carte 1991

So what have we got? Some of you will recognize this frame – it has been owned by several members of this site over the years. It is in very good condition. Not perfect, but that’s fine because I will be riding it regularly off road. I don’t want to be too precious about it. The main event is...

    Salsa a la Carte 1991

1991 was a big year for Salsa. Ross Shafer was inducted to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame and there was a lot of buzz around the a la Carte. The a la Carte was offered as a frame, stem and fork combination (including Salsa Pro-Moto stem and Bontrager fork) for US$895.
