Wheels rebuilt on Campagnolo Electron/ Shamal Hubs

What hole count are the rims? I have rebuilt a lot of old wheels with new rims and vice versa. Do you know the ERD of the rims? It may be possible with these.

    just hearing another crappy rumour

As far as I'm aware they're still in business. I think it was one of those crafty pre-pack administration moves to write-off some debt and then sell the company back to yourself.

If I were you I would run a small spacer between the hub axle and the end cap or a washer on the end cap where it steps down to 9mm. Done it lots of times on bikes with hooky spacings. Or you could run a narrower chain. If my eyes are correct you've got a 9 speed cassette. A narrower 11 speed...

The unexpected purchase, late 90's Piton Dedacciai SC 6110A

I like everything about that. I love a good aluminium frame - above all other materials!

I think you've nailed it, plus I would add (in comparison to a cx bike) some mounting points for luggage and bottles, lower bb and more relaxed head tube angle.

Didn't mean to agitate your aggregate. More of state of mind. I'm with you.

Great thread rescue there. My original "gravel" bike. A very old Orbea (Arama Tour I think it was called - the decals have long since worn off). Came with IS disc mount and canti studs (never tried both at the same time!). Rode from Dieppe to Paris on and off road on it a few Sundays ago.

Depends on the roads you're riding. Judging by strava, my gravel/cross bike is often faster than my road bike on lots of "road" sections round here. Admittedly, it's not a run of the mill cross bike. It's pretty highly specced, with some very fast wheels. But there again so is my road bike. 😁

Did Hope ever make an XD freehub for Pro 2 hubs?

Well, it worked. You probably already knew it would. Thus, there is no pro 2 XD freehub body, but rather a new pro 2 EVO axle, end caps and freehub body. The 20 year old Hope lives on! Joy!

Did Hope ever make an XD freehub for Pro 2 hubs?

Thanks. I have an Evo XD freehub and found an old Evo axle at work. Going to see if I can retrofit them to my pro 2. The diameter of the Evo freehub where it interfaces with the ratchet ring in the hubshell looks very close (and also the pawls and springs are the same between pro 2 and Evo) so...

As the title really. Can anyone clarify for me please? And does anyone have one going spare (if they exist)? Thank you. Rich

Yes, they often run really close to the tyre. In my experience the tyre deposits clayey clag on them and that gets transmitted to drivechain, eventually (often pretty quickly) bringing everything to a standstill. It's why a lot of cross racers ran 1x before it was a "thing". This is my favourite...

I wouldn't. Nice enough to look but not a practical all year round multi terrain bike. For me, the modern gravel bike idea, or maybe call it a disc-braked 1x cross bike, is what I waited over a decade for. The clay where I live makes rim brakes and front mechs practically unrideable off-road for...
