Anyone like old railways? (Pic heavy)

I really like seeing pics like the ones posted by shedobits. Very atmospheric and the one with the bike (very nice bike too BTW) puts the scale of things into perspective.

    Specialized Hardrock

I posted earlier but didn't have time to add a pic so I've managed to dig one out now. I reckon it's from about 11 years ago and there are a few more marks on it now! It's also got the black M563 chainset on it. Just looking at the pic now reminds me how much I like riding it and it won't be...

    Specialized Hardrock

Very underestimated bikes IMO. Mine is a '95 in burgundy and like CassidyAce over the years I've had it I've replaced all the heavy stuff with a complete LX groupset and it rides really well. One of the most significant changes was when I replaced the steel bars and stem with alloy versions...

New life into old brake blocks?

Marvellous! A bit sandpaper and a little elbow grease and now the brakes are working beautifully and quietly. Not a hint of the dreaded grinding noise! Thanks again guys.

New life into old brake blocks?

We all fiddle around with old bikes and old bits and pieces of bikes and there are some remarkable instances of members renovating all kinds of parts. I've got a couple of pairs of STX RC and LX 537 canti brakes which have the silver cartridge type of shoe which takes a slide in pad. The pads...

    Cheap-ish GT85

It depends on what you're ordering - I was looking at a seatpost from the US recently and the price was around £15 but the postage was around £59 😲

    Freehub or Freewheel?

Thanks to all for your replies which as usual are very helpful. It seems that this particular cassette is a cross between the MF-TZ20 and the MF-TZ500 the former being 7 speed and the latter 8 speed. As such it's probably extremely rare and I should put it on ebay for a £1000 BIN price. ;)

    Freehub or Freewheel?

The freehub/wheel in the pic looks as though it's some kind of hybrid. The socket which takes the removal tool is not the normal Shimano size (but one I use for Campag fits) and the sprockets are Shimano. Apart from the removal socket there also appears to be a lockring but I've no idea what...
