    having just blown the no drive side crank, thread is totally gone and pedal fell out, the BB is also very lumpy, but will use a new one,does anyone have suitable cranks for a 90/91 Specialized Rockhopper? 175mm long preferred. Shimano Exage 400 LX was the original so anything along those lines...

    Coolstop Coolstop pads are the answer, the original Shimano pads are like plastic not rubber. Brakes have now improved. Many thanks for the info Konaglider and to the hoards who made suggestions as to how old this bike is.

    cheers for the tip, I will try to get a close up pic on the brakes tomorrow, I did notice that they are pulling unequal on the front, this probably doesn't help. I noticed the pads were rock hard when I looked at them, probably gone off with age as they do look original. cheers Sparky

    Maybe not full on retro but its a few years old, can anyone date this Specialized Rockhopper. Its a 20 inch Cromo version with Shimano Exage 400 groupset. I don't think think the serial number relates to a year like GT does. It runs well, not had much use, the brakes are mega shite by the way...
