Restoring a 1980 Dawes Galaxy – Free wheel and chain needed

Hi folks, I’m slowly making progress restoring my 1980 Dawes Galaxy Unfortunately, the original freewheel on my bike was corroded beyond redemption and so was the chain. I’ll have to replace both. The originals were a Suntour VXT freewheel 5-speed: 14/17/20/24/28 and the chain was a...

    Dawes 1980 catalogue

Dear Robbied196, Thanks for this. I've carried on looking for the last few weeks and got nowhere. I contacted Dawes and they replied very promptly but they were only able to supply scans for a much later Galaxy. I agree that this lot are being rather cheeky. However, I have managed to find...

    Dawes 1980 catalogue

Hi folks, I'm restoring my old Dawes Galaxy, which I bought in 1980. It will need a second respray and new decals. Does anyone have a 1980 Dawes catalogue? I want to be able to identify the decals carried on the seat tube. Many thanks

The good news is that probing with an engineer's scribe has failed to reveal any holes despite a lot of pitting. I guess that the suspect...

    Restoring my first proper bike

Yes, that's a very good point. At some point all the paint has to come off for a proper re-spray so, as you suggest it would be as well to find out now rather than later. Time for some aggresive sanding I think... Regards
