State of the industry: a running thread

This post resonates. I'm fortunate. Cycling is a lifestyle choice for me. I'm not obliged to cycle for my commute. There are plenty of people for whom the cost of car ownership represents a significant (even unaffordable) drain on their salary and who elect to cycle commute as a means of...

    Another DIY rear derailleur cage.

That's really quite ingenious as a means for determining a workable design. Me like. Are you an engineer by profession?

    Today's Ride

That looks lovely. Super rolling countryside with great horizons! Do you ever come across any of your (frankly disturbing) reptiles on these paths? What's the avoidance drill?

State of the industry: a running thread

I drive an old car, dont live a particularly "consumerist" lifestyle, and only now are people starting to realise that there is possibly method in my madness. Cycling is a super interest to have, because it can be quite healthy for bank balance as well as body. Just have to supress the N+1...

    Today's Ride

Quite a simple ride for me this weekend. A ride on the public roads (as opposed to cycle paths) northerly out of "the big city" into a headwind (yuk, like a hill but without a summit) then turned and flew with the now-tailwind back down a beautiful cycle path to the start point. 112km in 33...

State of the industry: a running thread

It's a business model which embraces anti-competitive practise at its heart. Apple computers is very similar: approved dealers only and OEM parts only. It wouldnt be so annoying if Apple were prepared to maintain stocks for elderly devices, but they choose not to. Keeps the income revenue...

    Today's Ride

An evening ride of 66km, benefitting from the autumnal temperatures here in Qatar ("only" 32deg and 65% humidity). Good to stretch the legs a bit and work out. Took the Infinito C2C. Not elderly by the standards of this forum, but a good 10-15 years older than the rest of the bikes in the...

Older Lyonaisse Artwork Aluminium tube muffed - C.M.P. Dural "Gottfried"

As life problems go, that really is a terrible problem to have. ;) I am only slightly envious!

State of the industry: a running thread

but would you want to open someone up and reconfigure their innards if you didn't truly believe in yourself? That's the terrible dichotomy. Surgeons may not actually be deities, but they certainly consider themselves to be their principal advisors!

State of the industry: a running thread

The LBS in the Middle East are: prompt and polite service. The techs kowtow as you enter, and fight to take your bike off you. variable quality work. They know what they know, but wont admit to where the boundaries are or what they know they dont know (esp those from the "sub-continent")...

    SKS Rennkompressor, Review And Modifications.

Fortunately there is a "fix" for the unclean and heretical reference of psi, in place of metric units, which does away with the need to replace the pressure gauge. Simply apply the conversion factor of 1psi equals 0.0689476bar - a bit of maths that can easily be done in the head without recourse...

Welding experts …. Is this salvageable

My (unsolicited) opinion: If it's intended to be decorative, then dress it and weld it and polish it until it meets the aesthetic intent. Hang it and enjoy it. If it's for repair to ride, then cutting out sections and rewelding is possible: badly or safely. Either way, it will cost. What's...
