My next Marin project.... any advice?

Re: Love that Indian Fire Trail. I've been looking around. There's a '93 IFT nearby. It's a guy who repairs bikes to sell. It's overpriced. But might be able to knock him down if I can take off the non-original parts. Would need a new crankset, water bottle holder (I already have one)...

    Rust removal

Re: I found citric acid mixed with water (5%) worked well. Example here - compared to vinegar: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=380774&start=10#p2826262

Marin experts - is this an Eldridge Grade?

Re: I saw that one. Unfortunately I'm just outside Brighton ... no postage either. I'm sure something will turn up!

Marin experts - is this an Eldridge Grade?

Re: That's what I thought. I have 2 - 99 Eldridge & 94 Palisades. They both fit with this frame number decoder: viewtopic.php?t=37430&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=marin+frame+numbers I guess this didn't apply to them all. I probably need to have a look. Bikes on the coast...

Marin experts - is this an Eldridge Grade?

Seen this on eBay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Marin-Bike-9 ... =R40&rt=nc It all looks to be right - stem / badging colour. Rear mech is Deore DX - looks like the crankset it wrong though. I think I spot a Mavic sticker on the wheels. Reason I ask is there's a picture of the frame number...

Nice Marin with awful listing in need of tlc 99p start

That's a '93 Pine Mountain. Looks to be all there too. I've seen a lot worse. Shame - it's 200 miles from me.

My next Marin project.... any advice?

Re: Thanks for the offer. I'm not quite at the stage to start yet. In the middle of building a workshop! Sounds like definitely Eldridge or Pine Mountain. There's a 97 Pine Mountain for sale locally... but really want a zolatone.

My next Marin project.... any advice?

Re: That's exactly what I had in mind. I think it needs to be a Pine Mountain or Eldridge Grade. Great job you've done there. What does the Eldridge ride like? I want to treat it well but still get it muddy sometimes! My Palisades is a bit sluggish. I think it's just the weight of the...

My next Marin project.... any advice?

Re: Thanks for the offer. Wanna get a perfect frame though. Don't mind painting - but no dents. I'd keep noticing them :-)

    Frame saver / rust protection

Re: I used boiled linseed oil. It's a bit old skool - but worked. They used to use it in planes. Smells like chip fat until it dries... then no more smell. I guess it's the environmentally friendly option.

My next Marin project.... any advice?

Re: I'm 6'. The Palisades is 17 and I find it a little small. Plus getting a bit old to have the seat post right out! I guess I need a 19 or 20?

My next Marin project.... any advice?

It's been a while since I finished my '94 Palisades Trail. I've been scouring the local ads / eBay / MTB for sale for my next project. This time I want to do a proper restoration as the last was a learning experience. That bike will go to someone as a tourer / commuter. It's gotta to be a...

    Marin afterburner

Re: It's under the bottom bracket - if you can find it I have a guide to decode I can dig out. Mine was notchey on a '94 Marin. Replaced with a Ritchey Logic version for £10. Made a remover tool from some old pipe following a guide online.

I used Weldtite TF2 which came with the bearings last time.... seemed pretty expensive. Looks like a trip to the local AutoFactors for motorbike grease! Cheers

New to all this. Just stripped my Marin Eldridge Grade ready for a proper once over. Interested to know what you'd recommend for headset, mechs, pedals, hubs etc... Also have Manitou Spyder R fork I want to change the oil on. So many different products out there! Cheers Si

Very original survivor 1992 Pine Mountain

Re: I did a science experiment with the kids. White Vinegar vs Citric Acid in water solution to remove rust. Citric acid is easy to come buy - used in home wine making. Tried them both at 5% (White Vinegar is already 5%). Citric acid is amazing. Just leave in overnight. No nasty...

    Marin Team Ti - 1995 I think...

Re: That's a very smart frame. Will make an amazing bike. Sure you've already found it but there's a spec sheet in the catalogue here. http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/v/M ... 5.pdf.html Might help you with collecting the parts.

    Marin Team Ti - 1995 I think...

Re: Found a good guide to the serial numbers when I was looking for a frame. F = Fairly Factory 0 = Not 100% (The lower the number the better the frame - 1 Team Issue, 2 Team Marin , 3 Pine Mountain etc) 5 = 1995 AA = Month and date (no idea how you work it out) C = 17 inch 015 = Some sort...
