    Carlton Corsair Touch Up Paint

Yes, it suits my larger version legs very well, as does the generous 34 tooth sprocket on the back. Do you think that was original or maybe an option as well? Everything else looks original except the tyres, and presumably it would have had a rack as standard. I've heard the nail varnish idea...

    Carlton Corsair Touch Up Paint

I bought this Corsair cheap on account of the stuck, snapped off seatpost. The guy I bought it from rescued it from a skip, seems like the guy who put it there had made a pigs ear of trying to extract the post and damaged the seat tube in the process. I've whittled out the remains without making...

1981 Dawes Galaxy - rusted frame! Guidance needed

Re: I have a Galaxy very similar to that and the forks look just the same. I think it is just the way they were made - the rear side of the blades is paralell to the steerer so the taper is all at the front so to speak, hence they look as if they are bent back. https://flic.kr/p/awZR3o William.

    Next direction for Holdsworth Mistral

Re: I think you've done it proud even if there's a few things I would have done different, but I'm no purist. I like the colour but I always think the Holdsworth decals on seat and down tube look a bit shouty especially in such a bold font; I'd have left off one or the other. Looks like it had...

    1973 Carlton Corsair Rescue

Re: Great, 83 it is then. Logos definitely look like yours Andy but mine doesn't look like it ever had the contrast colour on the head tube. If I ever get the bb out I think I'll do it up and post pics. Thanks all. William.

    Suntour GS Dropouts

Looking for a NOS replacement for this broken dropout. It is the cranked Suntour GS cranked type common on 70's Raleighs etc, this one is on a Worksop Carlton Corsair. Not sure if they came in different angles but this one is on a big frame approx 73 degrees between seatstay and chainstay...

    1973 Carlton Corsair Rescue

I fell for a big old Carlton Corsair frame at the Manc Velodrome jumble the other week and if I can get the bb out and replace the broken drive side dropout then I'd like to refinish to something like the original. All the Corsairs I can find photos of are in a gold scheme with rather blingy...

    Return to OCD corner

Re: Off road motorbikes use clamps to stop the tyres creeping round, don't know if you can get a bicycle rim sized one but not hard to improvise I'd have thought. William.

Moving from a single front chain ring to a double - help!

Re: You can use a spacer, even Evans have them, but not sure how far you can go. Google "bottom bracket spacer". A longer BB is probably the best solution. William.

    "Rat" cyclocross / winter trainer

Absolutely no cyclocross experience here but I'd imagine you'd want a light strong frame with lots of clearance for tyres & mud.

Friction Washers; Where can I get them?

I cut one out of a tupperware lid a few years back for a shimano shifter, still working fine.

    Stuck Stem - opinions sought

Re: Maybe worth trying to knock it further in. A piece of timber in place of the front wheel to support the bottom of the steering tube and block on top to protect the stem and give it a whack. As soon as you've broken the stiction you can start twisting and pulling.

    Suntour Accushift Chain Recommendation Please.

Well, I suspect that some will work more perfectly than others. As I understand it, one of the things which killed Suntour was they introduced indexing they did not insist on manufacturers fitting complete systems. The mix and match approach meant that some worked well and some didn't, the...

    Suntour Accushift Chain Recommendation Please.

Sorry, failed to get the photo to work in the first post, not very exciting I'm sure but represents the successful conclusion of a very long search by me! url=http://flic.kr/p/dYjh6u][/url]

    Suntour Accushift Chain Recommendation Please.

It has taken a long time but I finally have a "new" SR chainset to go with the nos Accushift 6 speed block on my old British Eagle so now I just need a chain. I know there was originally a specially designed Suntour chain but even if I could find one it would probably be expensive so can anyone...

    531c Olmo?

OK, thanks, it's academic now as the frame was sold before I got there. I'm sorry I didn't catch it, even if it was a wrong'un it looked like an interesting wrong'un.

    531c Olmo?

Anyone know if Olmo did any frames in 531c? Been offered a scruffy but cheap frame & forks with a Renolds sticker on. Going to look tomorrow, only seen photos so far, but haven't been able to find any reference to Olmos in 531 on interweb. Thanks, William.
