    Denton Frame - Any Info?

Only running 7 speed so 126mm is enough but as a matter of interest, what broke: chainstay or brake bridge maybe?

    Denton Frame - Any Info?

Thanks everyone, I love it when a dormant thread comes back to life. As the consensus seems to be that it is an old Galaxy frame that has already had one make over I don't feel bad about messing it about a bit more. I've already taken a modified g clamp to the chain stays to improve tyre...

    Denton Frame - Any Info?

I bought this frame on ebay last week and would be very grateful for any information regarding likely maker, year of manufacture etc. I know from other threads here and elsewhere that Dentons were a Newcastle bike shop and commissioned frames from a number of different makers including Mercian...

Not sure about this work I've had done on my bike

Doesn't look right - maybe he couldn't fit his drill in between the chainstays?

    Paint Stripping and another point

The heat that bubbles paint is a long long way from de-brazing temp! I agree that diy frame painting isn't a great way to save money but there is something to be said for stripping it yourself just to see what is under the paint in terms of cracks, rust, previous repairs, serial numbers etc.

    Paint Stripping and another point

I stripped an old Claud Butler using a blow torch and scraper - it didn't take much heat to bubble the paint after which it came off very easily, then I finished up with wire wool, brushes, emery etc. I wouldn't do it indoors though, I don't know how toxic the fumes might be, though Nitromors...

servicing a 3 speed Sturmey Archer hub

If you do dismantle it be careful not to lose the tiny hair springs that bear on the pawls. Come to think of it they may be the problem - if the hub isn't lubricated properly and starts to rust inside these will be the first to go. They are the only really delicate parts.

    The Fattest 27" Tyre?

I have an old Galaxy with nice 27 x 1 1/4 wheels which I'd like to retain rather than replacing with 700c but I don't like skinny tyres. It is fitted with Specialized Tri Sports which are only about 28mm and a pair of Continentals which are a full 32mm though both are marked 32x630 which is the...

    Which Aero Levers?

I'm looking for a pair of aero style brake levers that fit the following criteria: gum/brown hoods; suitable for caliper brakes; quick release for wheel changing; affordable. Any suggestions?

It was Rich34's '76 Galaxy - now The Dawes Galaxy thread!

The seat post is labelled "Push", made by K alloy I think. I'm not sure I like it to be honest, I've got a Laprade I might fit instead. More photos here: <http://www.flickr.com/photos/27344909@N02/sets/72157627799185449/> if anyone's interested. Since these were taken I've completely dismantled...

It was Rich34's '76 Galaxy - now The Dawes Galaxy thread!

...and a rusty chain stay bridge... Like this? Here's mine as bought with custom paint by the previous owner, a bit of scraping shows it was originally green. The chainstay bridge is rolled from flat plate and has a hole through so maybe not surprising that it's a rust trap.

    Road Triple Front Mech

Thanks Tony, I started to think it wouldn't be hard to fit a 31.8 with some packing so the Sora is a contender. I likle the look of the Tiagra but I've read a few reviews suggesting that the spring anchor is fragile.

    British Eagle Randonnee restoration

No, you need the ones with the "Venetian Blind" effect. Here's mine from a similar vintage: <http://www.flickr.com/photos/27344909@N02/5984709987/in/photostream>

    Road Triple Front Mech

I need a front deraillleur for a 52-42-32 triple for my mid eighties Claud Butler. Sierra 15 I don't know what it would have had originally and I'm floundering a bit in the sea of choice but patchiness of specification. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    British Eagle Randonnee restoration

Nice to see a British Eagle on the forum, I have a 501 Le Tour bought new in about 1990. I couldn't stretch to the next model up which was a 531, Touristique I think it was called. I'm no expert but they seem like excellent bikes and it's strange how seldom you come across one. Mine has pretty...

    6 Speed Suntour Accushift Cassette

Looking for a nice wide range - say 13-28 or bigger- 6 speed cassette for my early 90s British Eagle road bike. It has Accushift XCD shifters and rear mech so I think I need the earliest type with 3.5mm spacers all through as seen on the right of this photo...

Looking for a nice wide range - say 13-28 or bigger- 6 speed cassette for my early 90s British Eagle road bike. It has Accushift XCD shifters and rear mech which I think were commonly fitted to mtbs hence my post on this forum.
