    1990 Marin Pine Mountain Restoration

The forks are done... The head tube part is the original colour, the rest is what my mate has been able to create. The frame should be with me next week sometime. :D

SHIMANO XT STUFF REDUCED + POSTS ADDED

Damn! Had to go out to do a gig last night... got back and saw this post and already everything had gone!!! Been looking for a set of Shimano cantis and brake shoes, too! Oh well, that's how it goes, I guess! :)

'92 Orange Clockwork REMAINING ITEMS MOVED TO NEW POST

Back in the day, when I bought my '90 Pine Mountain, the guy that I used to go MTBing with had the Orange Clockwork. It was an incredible bike back then, and I was pretty envious to say the least. To see this one now, so beautifully restored, I find it incredibly tempting to buy it...

    1990 Marin Pine Mountain Restoration

Thought I'd put in a couple of hours this evening straight after work... so next up was a pair of the cantilevers. Always looking for NOS replacements, but assuming the worst for now, I tried to tidy these ones up a bit... That'll do me for this evening, I think. By the...

How does one remove the lever from a quick release skewer?

I was so sure there wasn't, as I'd looked under the microscope at 40x magnification and it looked like it was a complete ring.... But when I went back to check, it turns out you're absolutely right, but there was a tiny bit of grease obscuring the gap! The gap is probably no more than a tenth of...

Shimano Deore DX BR-MT62 cantiliever brake shoes?

It's not about how well they work, so much as whether they have the Shimano logo on them. I'd have considered those NOS ones on eBay.de but they're the wrong design. The ones I need have a plain unthreaded shaft that go though a hole in a clamp that is in turn bolted to the canti. Like...

Shimano Deore DX BR-MT62 cantiliever brake shoes?

Cheers Rahbari, It really is the Shimano shoes I need. Koolstop won't do it. as I'm trying to restore a Pine Mountain to a fairly faithful original spec, so Shimano DX preferred, but definitely Shimano something. Am watching eBay for NOS with everything crossed. Cheers again, Lee. :)

Can anyone tell me if these are still made, or otherwise a good suitable Shimano alternative, please? Cheers.

    1990 Marin Pine Mountain Restoration

:D The weekend is almost on us; I should be doing more then. Perhaps the cantis and the seat post. Must step up the hunt for a pair of Araya RM20s and Marin Rockstars.

How does one remove the lever from a quick release skewer?

It's from the Deore DX hub. Very similar to the one pictured above, but there is no circlip up inside the recess. Looks like these -

    1990 Marin Pine Mountain Restoration

Took the old pedals and rubbed them down last night, before giving them two coats of gloss black and treating them to new clips. I also have a VGC pair on their way from eBay, which may be better, as the Shimano Deore DX stamp in white is still present on those. These ones will likely end...

How does one remove the lever from a quick release skewer?

Ha ha, yes, kind of... I bought the wife a good quality stereoscope for her own amusement, and it was just sitting there on the desk, so I figured I could get good detailed view of this tiny washer.

How does one remove the lever from a quick release skewer?

No offence intended... It was a smiley rolling eyes! To be fair, I asked the question because I'd like to know if anyone knows how to do this, not if they think whether there a good reason. I am restoring the bike to the best detail I can manage, and having the original QR is definitely part...

How does one remove the lever from a quick release skewer?

Errr.... It's worth the hassle if they don't make them anymore and you're trying to restore one to original spec.

Jeeez, I read that subject line and thought someone was selling their private parts!!!

How does one remove the lever from a quick release skewer?

This is the retro Shimano QR skewer... It looks like it should be a split ring/washer on the end of the pivot pin where it comes through the opposite side of the cap.... but it isn't; the ring/washer is complete and there's no obvious way to remove it and release the lever from the end cap...
