Your thoughts on my Gary Fisher beater

Ok as a urban jumper I see that a MTB with slicks is a good application. That was not the stated purpose of the OP , for a go anywhere bike a CX bike is a much better choice IMO. I have put quality Continental 3000's on a 26" MTB and it sucked on pavement. A Miyata Quickrross, steel Trek...

Your thoughts on my Gary Fisher beater

So please explain how a 26" inch wheel on a mountain bike with slick tires rides nicer, handles better, is faster or does anything better than a CX or purpose built 700c bike that will take a large tire ? It is correct that no one will want to steal it though......lol.

    E-Stay advantages

I think, I will hang onto this one, it's especially rare, It's my size and now that I know it is perfect for a 27.5 conversion it will be much easier to build this than try to get a new frame by my wife. :D

    E-Stay advantages

Thanks guys, I have had this Redline Fifty Five sitting around for almost five years and it never occurred to me to check for clearance. I only hung onto it because I knew it would not be worth the effort to pack it off to Ebay for chump change as there is no interest for E stays in the USA that...

    E-Stay advantages

The elevated stay bikes look like they might be a good candidate for a 27.5 conversion........., i guess I will have to pull my Redline out of he shed for a measure.

    CRANKS Sugino vs Shimano ??

I have a few Sugino cranks and a forged ones are very nice. That said at least for the ones I have used the Shimano's with their ramps and pins shift better.

Any experience on Trek 8000 aluminum?

I had a 93 8000. Trek had dialed the geometry by then with a 1 1/8 HT and it rode nice with a Marzocchi Z2 I added. If it was a size bigger I would still own it. The stock showa forks were crap but rigid was also a option.

    gm's 30 days of gt

I find my 92 Zaskar handles excellent with a 3D fork. Mild to wild depending on which slot you put the axle in. Now throw a Manitou three on it and I certainly could understand geometry criticisms. You can't blame the bike for bad fork choices. What was the first year GT changed the HA to...

    Thumb shifters

Yes , but they work better using the alternative attachment method to alter the cable throw at the derailleur as the pull is different.

Regarding 1990 Team Avalanche. I wonder if anybody knows the differences between the 1990 Team Avalanche and the 1990 Avalanche . Frame differences are what I am interested in. They both seem to sport Prestige concept in the main tubes anyway. Maybe GMXXXXXX will showcase the regular 1990...
