Specialized Stumpjumper Comp 1988 [BLACK or WHITE??]

Re: Definitely the Turbo! Great Bike, i abso-friggen-lutely love this Specialized paint job. Last year i aquired a 1988 RockHopper comp with the same paint scheme. I´m almost finished, only minor things are missing.

    My obsession with cranksets

My third and fourth finished SunTour crankset: :xmas-big-grin: It´s amazing that one still can find NOS parts after almost twenty years.

    1990 Cannondale SM2000

At least the 22" model had a larger stem (~145 mm). The C´dale folks even fitted a 180 mm crank and XL pedal cages with this bike.

    1988 Cannondale 24"x24" FINISHED 13.07.2013

Re: 1988 Cannondale 24"x24" Congrat´s on the rescue of this old `dale. Those eighties machines are way-cool stuff. The first "real" mountain bike i saw in person was such a C´dale equipped with Roller Cams and these Dia Compe brake levers. :xmas-big-grin:

Suntour XC-Ltd, Shimano Dx and Sachs-Huret Rival 7000?

XC ltd. is more or less situated between Shim´s Mountain LX (later Deore LX) and the Deore, Deore DX group. I would have to study catalogues to see how the Rival 7000 fits in this scheme.

Top of the range lightweight 7 speed freewheel

Another mentioning of Suntour, not a weight weenie but solidly built. The top line winner pro does show up from time to time in the bay. Biggest sprocket up to 32 teeth. Alpha mid-range freewheel:

    Shimano M550 rear hub question

As stated before, unless there is something damaged within the freehub body or you want to swap an 7speed to 8speed or so you don´t have to take it off the hub body in order to service the hub.

Did Suntour have any top pull front mechs?

I think, you´re referring to the little "fork" which protrudes downwards from the lower part of the clamping. It was designed to hold an adaptor with a cable housing stop, that was used on frames with continuous cable housings (no stops at the down tube). This clamp was the earlier design also...

Which is an example of a Top of the Range MTB Stem?

I´m shocked that NITTO wasn´t mentioned on a three pages thread about this topic.

What component from BITD do you miss the most?

Cup and cone bottom brackets, either Shimano XT or SunTour XC Pro, both are top notch. I still drive them today. :xmas-big-grin:

Is a ball a ball ? Bearing question.

Ball sizes are usually standardised. A good overview of common ball sizes is given on this german web site (self explanatory, no need for Google translation): http://scheunenfun.de/kugelringe-star.htm There are some differences concerning overall quality and size uniformity between one batch...

The one and only "HOW MUCH IS MY xyz WORTH" thread

Re: 1988 Stumpjumper comp value? This isn´t exactly what can be called a "large frame", it´s probably an eighteen or nineteen inch frame, but Spesh did produce frames up to 21.5 or even 22". One question regarding the bike you saw in the bight; did it actually SELL for that amount of money or...

    What brand is this frame?

KHS is an american bike brand. Concerning the frame; no Specialized imo, fastback design wasn´t on their shelf back in those days.
