How much different can frames with the same geometry feel?

That's very interesting and unexpected given that they're both alu bikes with same geometry and tube diameters - but it ties in with chris's link where two steel frames looked the same but felt very different because of tubing profile. Could you say some more about the feeling differed?

Just built a 29'er. Will I ever ride on 26" wheels again?

Re: Re: Tell your boss that his parents have a vicious sense of humour. I knew a guy called Richard Head once, which was bad, but if you call a kid "Hans Solo" then you might as well tattoo "wanker" on his forehead when you send him to school.

The one and only "HOW MUCH IS MY xyz WORTH" forum

Have you tried an ebay completed items search? To get a better answer than that, if on is possible, you'd need photos and lots more details. (The ebay search suggests around £250 a bike.)

Just built a 29'er. Will I ever ride on 26" wheels again?

Re: Might there possibly be a clue in the above why riding a 29er would have greater than average advantages for you? Jebus, you should probably be riding 30 inch wheels just to get a decent fit... Yes, I rather think you would feel more confident on 29s!

Front specific totally slick road tyres ???????????????

That's a brilliant explanation, but my money is on a mis-written ad.

Just built a 29'er. Will I ever ride on 26" wheels again?

I have a strong suspicion that 20% of the $1500-$2000 (I'm in the UK, but I tend to think in $ prices for various reasons) bikes do 50-80% of the singletrack miles. One of the things I get paid to do is research businesses and markets, and I've been struck, as I've been doing my rebuild research...

How did cycling shoes get so damned expensive?

Re: Re: There are reasons to prefer clipless and I wasn't criticizing anyone who does. The point is not that no one should wear clipless but that the main reason *most* people buy them (well, leaving aside roadies who would be lynched if they rode anything else) ie power on pulling up, has...

Just built a 29'er. Will I ever ride on 26" wheels again?

I can't help suspecting that your sample is heavily biased - for a start the more someone rides, the more likely you are to meet them on the trail. When you're thinking about bikes sold, which is what the industry naturally does, garage queens and semi-queens (princesses?) are a big part of the...

How did cycling shoes get so damned expensive?

Re: You don't need to sell many pairs of £300 shoes to make up for lost sales of reasonably priced ones - not when the £300 shoes cost £15 to make, which is a pretty common production to price cost ratio for the upper end of the sports shoe industry. I've given up and ride in Hightech hiking...

Just built a 29'er. Will I ever ride on 26" wheels again?

..A big factor in mtb design has to be the incompetence of most people riding a $2000 bike. They can pedal and turn the handlebars, but probably a minority know what pumping is or that they should use counterpressure and hip motion to steer. If you've mastered these skills and can bunny hop...

Just built a 29'er. Will I ever ride on 26" wheels again?

Re: Re: No offense, but that's a personality thing. Other people who are happier to take more risks - and who have been racing against 29ers - will have a pretty good idea where the limits are and won't mind pushing it until they find them. When you look at actual race times, the 29er/26 gap...

Just built a 29'er. Will I ever ride on 26" wheels again?

I finally managed to find some ride tests with times: So - - Difference big in terms of racing between riders with evenly matched levels of skill - Difference (as reported) small in most other contexts and wouldn't to my mind justify the enthusiasm shown by some people here. This maybe...

    Pedo Hunter CH4!

My understanding is that the threshold for entrapment as misconduct is whether bait is used to make someone do something they normally wouldn't do. So whether there is other evidence shouldn't ever matter - it's whether the bait changed behaviour that counts. By example: if Officer Dibble leaves...

What state is retro biking in at the moment?

But are they really dated in performance terms? There's no evidence I'm aware of that road bikes performance has changed by more than minute amounts - you can save a little weight and get a 3% benefit on climbs; that's about it. And in mtbs, other than the change to 29ers, good suspension forks...

    Pedo Hunter CH4!

In the same way that Ghana being in the Commonwealth (if it is) means that the UK is an African country, this is perfectly true! More sanely: if the UK was going to refuse to ally with and trade every country which had some policy it didn't like, then its friends would probably consist of...

    Cheap outdoor bike storage ideas

it sounds like you might already know what you want: take some timber and make a framework of 1x1s (hold them together with L clamps to get the angle then join them with decking screws) then cover it with canvas. An A-frame shape will probably resist wind better than a square box - either way...

SOLD New in box surly 1x1 forks (disc and canti) SOLD

Re: New in box surly 1x1 forks There's also a 63mm version... well, actually, I'm not sure there is an 80mm - if you read the text closely, that's possibly a misprint (look at the ca difference between the "80" and 100.) What's the crown to axle?

    Unknown retro MTB

..The Ukai rims definitely support the idea the bike is Japanese. So does the very high standard of finish. I'd say that the lack of stamps on the frame is puzzling, but, hey, at least it has a serial number, which is more than my Zaskar has. (Pun explanation: in English "bondage" is a sexual...
