    BSO's

A huge range of opinions and experiences in the comments on this article: http://www.southcoastbikes.co.uk/Dont-Buy-a-Cheap-Bike The one I found most interesting: ..I think that Halfords might be suffering from cognitive dissonance when it tries to sell bike care plans with BSO's. It's...

    1991 "Wall Art" Zaskar

Re: My attitude would be that if they want the frame back, then they have to arrange and pay for collection. ebay will almost certainly back you, because the seller hid faults that make the frame dangerous: a refund of your cash is obligatory, getting the frame back is there problem.

    v brake adapter options

Re: Re: FMJ: have you used them with a 700c yourself? Because when I was thinking of building a 69er, I was told they wouldn't be long enough. Also: they're so expensive that buying a new fork is probably cheaper..

    show us your gt's

They've only been around a few months and the US and UK prices are silly: I got mine from Germany. They use a new tyre carcass design taken from sports motorbikes to reduce rolling resistance. (It also seems to increase grip on gravel.) If you put a 1 cm strip of silver super-high reflective...

The gruesome crash thread! WARNING: photos

Re: Re: You think it's made-up bad-thriller-writer bs until it happens to you, but its quite amazing - when I flew off the bonnet of a car on Oz I had about half an hour to philosophically reconcile with the prospect of death and plan how I was going to roll when I landed. And then I founded a...

The gruesome crash thread! WARNING: photos

Wow. This accident must have been really bad - because you've obviously been in hospital since 2000, that being the last time that wearing your underpants higher than your jeans was in fashion. Anyway - kudos at getting back on the (very pretty for an fs) bike!

    Longboard skateboards - any advice/opinions?

Dude... You're the dean of Christ's College, for, well the obvious person's sake. Show some dignity - at least geta scooter or a bmx!

Stolen bicyle - first time for me.

Re: Re: Good idea. Most bike thieves are bottom feeders who only take what's easy; anything you can do to make their lives difficult sends them off to look for easier prey.

    crank lengths

Can I submit that if legs were not extremely flexible over crank length then we'd have more variation than about 15mm given that bikes have to accomodate adults from, say, 5-2 to 6-4? And that also the optimum crank length for any rider would vary with position and power output if it was a big...

Stolen bicyle - first time for me.

Re: Ouch. A good thing to do if a wall anchor is too much of a pain is to get hold of some weight plates or a kettlebell and chain the bike to them. Or - I wish I'd thought of this before, because it should be really cheap - maybe mix a nice heavy bucket of concrete with a chain embedded in it...

Question for people with dropbar mtbs

So you pumped everywhere??? Gott in himmel! This guy pumps on a drop bar for 20 minutes, no pedalling (it's speeded up): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJcw-WaVxp0

You've never pumped bottoms on your bike???

Question for people with dropbar mtbs

When you pumped with your pimped pumper, what sort of drops did you use? Roadie, or flared? Did you pump from in the drops and or the hoods or both, and how comfortable was it? (If that's not too personal.)

Question for people with dropbar mtbs

Can you pump running dropbars? My guess was that pumping works ok when you're using flared drops alla Phelan ..But that it doesn't really work with flareless road drops - the motion seems wrong with that wrist angle. And that that you'd need drops set up high, so that you're always riding in...

    commuting front light

..In space, no one can hear you.. Re protection against rain and water, for quality non-bike lights it's standard for makers to provide an IPX rating. These work like I think all Fenixes, for example, are IPX7.

    GT Psyclone,Pretty parts.

Yeah. But however you measure, Zaskars that size still don't look as good as big Zaskars or the same size skinny tube GT. At least not unless you change the visual proportions by adding a suspension fork and a long stem. Actually, when I see the difference that a suspension fork can make I feel...

What state is retro biking in at the moment?

Re: Re: There is an enormous amount a good designer can do; the one's who are willing to focus on the market and the problem are worth their weight in expensive little matt black things. To which the answer is "It's not part of my vision that you'll get paid for this." (You then leave rather...

    GT Psyclone,Pretty parts.

That's one of the best looking bikes I've ever seen. I love the way my Zkr rides, but the fat tubes do make a 17 frame stubby; the Psyclone in the same (?) size is aesthetically perfect.
