Suggested replacement please for weird CS20 bottom bracket

Scratchy bottom bracket means out with the old and in with the new :) But google reveals all sorts of horror stories regarding these CS20's - thought i had better do some checking as mentioning 'standard' size/fitting and 'bicycle industry' in the same sentance just makes me PMSL. Apart from...

    JUDY T2 EXPERTS - I NEED YOU!

Judy T2's Small steps, but..... 1. The shaft guide O ring does go 'into' the shaft guide - if it didn't it would just slide up and down pointlessly. 2. The bottom of the lowers have a recess (for the cartridge retaining ring). 3. Plus a 'shoulder' - that seems to be there to accept and stop...

    JUDY T2 EXPERTS - I NEED YOU!

Where are all the Judy experts? I wouldn't call it an inspiration, but this morning i thought..... It tanspires that the neutral shafts must go the same way around as they are identical in dimensions and are only threaded at one end - the end that goes at the bottom of the fork. I might end up...

    JUDY T2 EXPERTS - I NEED YOU!

Now i'm generally an Indy person. But i bought some Judy T2's (i appreciate they're 98 but they are elastomer and coil.....) AGES ago - in bits, but all present and correct. I finally have the frame i was after and i plan to install the T2's. But i'm unsure of the order to put them back together...

    Replacement rear axle - possible?

Re: Many thanks for the replies. kingbling - yes, that was my idea with the JB Weld - fill the threads and then have it machined down to size. Didn't really consider having one made from scratch, but many thanks for the suggestion. If the axle spotted by mk one doesn't work out i will speak to...

    Replacement rear axle - possible?

So i need to replace my rear axle. 9mm x 145mm, hollow, non threaded - for cartridge bearing hub. From a CODA/Sachs 800 hub. My thoughts: Can i use the 145mm threaded axle (C&C hub) from a lower grade hub (CODA 500) that i have? (Will the cartridge bearings sit in place properly on the...

Anyone recommend good chrome plating (preferably in the SW)?

Re: Many thanks for the responses. Taking the advice onboard, i will give the chroming a miss. Might just go full 'rat' look - have it shot blasted and wipe it down with WD40 every now and then. I'm not a million miles from that anyway..... :|

Anyone recommend good chrome plating (preferably in the SW)?

Toying with the idea of treating my incredibly beat up old Marin to a coat of chrome. I like the bare metal look and while it works perfectly with aluminium, i suspect that with steel it is a non starter. 'Google' recommends sourcing a 'traditional' triple plating service that uses copper? and...

Is there any future at all for the 26 wheel?

Re: Friend of mine uses 24'' wheels on his mountain bike (Giant NRS designed for 26'' wheels) because he just prefers how the bike handles like that. My Marin B17 (with 26'' wheels) makes me grin from ear to ear every time i ride it. If it makes you happy - it can't be that bad..... I don't...

    Rockshox Indy SL service

Re: Yes, lovely little forks. Lightest i've ever used, dependable and easy to maintain. Plenty of detractors who will tell you they flex, have no compression or rebound control or the elastomers melt (or freeze). But i raced with them (summer and winter) for years quite happily without any...

    Rockshox Indy SL service

Re: Used Indy's for years. They are straightforward to service - if maintained properly. I've seen similar when i raced/worked for a bike shop - the general theory (i have no idea if it's true) was that if the wrong lubes were used the travel adjusters 'expanded'. It seems that some lubes can...

    1996 marin headset question

Re: Thankyou for the replies. Yes, i am unsure of threaded headsets. But yes, i like to try and sort things out myself. I like the idea of a regrease and re-tighten :D Or maybe replacing the bearings :) Looks like i will just have to take it apart and see what's what :?

    1996 marin headset question

I think my headset has developed a bit of play. I was hoping to get 25 years out of it, but what can you do :( Could any Marin headset experts confirm which headset i need? As far as i can tell, it's a '1 1/8 threaded'? But maybe i could just replace the bearings? The headsets i've looked at...

strange holes in frame - advice appreciated

Re: I was just concerned that they were circular initially, but that the medal has been 'peeled back' somehow. I can't imagine what would have caused it to peel back, but you see all sorts..... I think the bikes originally came with rack, lights etc, so they could be mounting holes of some...

strange holes in frame - advice appreciated

Rescued this Hercules Commuter - just felt the tip was kind of an injustice..... It's a Sturmey Archer 3 speed (1987 according to the hub). Have an eye on maintaining it and using it as my runaround. First step was to clean all the road grime off. Quickly came across these holes in the frame...

rear hub question regarding swapping out axles

Re: Thanks again. I will try getting the hub apart and then see how everything looks. The mechanical side of things is not my strong point :|
