Shimano STI 9 speed double shifters (+ maybe rear mech?)

To work with an Ultegra double mech (53/39) and 12-25 HG cassette. Rear mech also wanted, this is next on the list! Flight deck might be nice to have, not essential. I am poor and constantly defeated by ebay, so anyone willing to be kind...

Gears. Campy wheel, Shimano drive. Drowning in info-advice?!

What it looks like I might be doing is using the Bianchi for the single speed I originally bought it for, and getting a different rear wheel with a 9 speed shimano cassette.... Sounds quite faffy.. :P

Cheers, I understood  I've just got a mech and cranks/chainrings all together from the same source, so I know they work together. Hoping to get a rear wheel now with a 9 speed shimano, then I've just got the rear mech and levers to sort....aim is come summer (fitting in with the rest of...

BTW I've seen that pic before, you've replied to my threads in the past, nice work! I'll be posting up pics of my creature when its in progress...

Will the largest chainring on my road cranks (2 chainrings, 52/39 shimano tiagra cranks) sit further inboard than the existing (MTB) when fitted? If not it's well clear. My frame is quite narrow at the rear. If it is going to sit more inboard would be good to know before I get a mech I won't...

Nice! I'm flexible though as I'm only using the frame from the mountain bike; so I can go for road bike stuff. Only issue is the possibly-campag wheen vs. the shimano based setup I was planning...but these plans may change! I am watching that one on ebay, would be perfect but chances are...

Right different tactic. I'm looking at Campag levers now. I can live with this, I'll take the opportunity to just do something completely unfamiliar why not. NO messing with my back wheel then, I can just whack a new cassette on it. Will get flight decks or better when I do my 'ultimate'...

Interesting. I'm actually just looking into campag stuff.....even more new to me!

A Question about cleaning a frame up

T-cut is excellent with paint - I partially restored a vintage white Raleigh frame for a friend and it made the white look like new - just cuts off all the light marks and scuffs and staining. But you should always test an area first for colour fastness, and also the decals. I've never had a...

Gears. Campy wheel, Shimano drive. Drowning in info-advice?!

Practical advice required... Just been having a discussion spinning off from my post wanting to find some STIs (8, or possibly my mind is migrating to 9 speed) for a scratch build which I'm working backwards through really, all dependant on what I can find available at the right price...

The only MTB component is the frame and maybe the forks! All the rest is changed, and I'll used MTB components only where totally necessary or there is no real difference...bb potentially..

Just formulating a thread! ;) Thanks for your advice, its all being assimilated....I'm not passing up shifters that I like, shimano or no, I'll simply use what doesn't get used this time for another of my planned projects. Just trying to economise on actual outlay right now as I don't physically...

I appreciate the advice very much, but I don't really understand how it is so difficult...maybe that's just me being a noob..isn't a freehub body an easy thing to swap? Just a case of screwing on a different one? And that looks very expensive.. Do they not make casettes that are spaced for...

I don't have the tools right now, but it has the 12 spline lockring by the looks of it. I might email the chap who I got the wheel off. I don't have the chain. The rear hub is Bianchi. I'd prefer to stay with my familiar Shimano... I have not done this before, so what is the best way of...

I'm starting this build from scratch, so all the drive gear will be different. Its a first for me; I've got everything except for the drive system (cranks/gears/shifters) so learning and using my wits as best as possible! Starting with the correct shifters then getting the right mechs (not got...

cheers, had a look but were already taken anyway. I think I'm going to chase some shimanos with flight deck enabled unless a real bargain comes up - if I'm going to invest in them a little then I want something I'm not going to want to change. At least not on this bike. Maybe an 8 or 9 shifter...

I'd be interested if I haven't sourced anything bargainous before then...are your 105s flight decks? As a friend just said to me, on a budget, start with the levers and work around them!

Yeah, 1 the most interesting things have gone and 2 they are about average price wise...going to keep trying for some older flight decks and then resort to t'others Thanks, that is useful to see some others
