    Dual brake levers

Yes i would agree with that point of view, they are usable if you respect the shortcomings compared to modern brakes, Regards Ray

    Dual brake levers

Yes I believe they have been referred to like that, I think their true function is probably just to scrub of speed, not fully brake. Ray

    Dual brake levers

Yes it does , ingenious design. Out of pure interest, I have read that the secondary levers are not popular, I do use them but do waggle a bit. Can they be restored, they don’t really appear to come apart easily. Thank you Ray

    Dual brake levers

Hi, I’m just going through my 81/2 Galaxy trying to get to know things and generally making it road worthy.. I’m looking at the brake levers and asking why is one set up differently than the other?? See pic, which is correct?? Ray

For Sale Wanted Dual speed crank set

Actually Martin, came to that broad conclusion about the gearing, a bit weird but not catastrophic.. The chain could be an issue on the rear gear set, I’ll check it out🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks for your patience..and info I’m sure it will still be there when I’ve understood the implications. Ray

For Sale Wanted Dual speed crank set

No issues with the price Martin, I need a crank length of 170mm to match my old one.. I’m no expert on gearing, I’m hoping that you have better understanding than myself.. If I take it; I’m matching it to a 34-14 rear set, this will effect the ratios but I don’t know how, are you informed...

For Sale Wanted Dual speed crank set

Hi Martin thanks for coming back to me, let me research that crank set, I’m not very knowledgeable so I’ll just need to look at the 50-34 T, my sense is that it won’t make a lot of difference, in fact it may help because the Low gear on the rear set is 34T…a tad low really. How much do you...

For Sale Wanted Dual speed crank set

Hi all, I’m looking for a dual speed crank set to fit my Dawes Galaxy, 48-36 T 170mm crank arm. Currently fitted with a stronglight one piece crank but it’s seen better days..a nice condition crank set and perhaps a front Mech to suit would give the old girl a lift, she might even pick up her...

    Front mech for 81/2 Galaxy

Hi all, new to this forum, hope someone can point me to an answer. I need to replace my Suntour front clamp on mech, what would be an ideal replacement - keeping in line with the retro theme of the bike? It’s a dual chain ring 48/36. Ray

Think I'm going to have to plant at least one more money tree... Don’t plant one for the anodising kit..old batteries are your friend just drain the acid filter and use....old roofing lead is fine....aluminium doesn’t work as well as an anode! Old charger..if you have one...smart chargers ramp...

Hi guys...As I’ve been perusing this thread, it’s obvious that it’s become something of a marathon... For me; the original poster, it’s been and is a really good Source of info..and to make my point, forums rely on input from like minded people... It doesn’t matter if a comment it technically...

    Old Dawes Galaxy

Robin: I've never found the tabbed washer design particularly useful. I’d concur..the tab washer is just an alternative really, for extreme safety conditions a wired locknut would be used so a simple locking nut as used on mine suffices because it’s cheap and easily dismantled.. Sealed needle...

    Old Dawes Galaxy

Mmm..interesting ...those bearing take quite a bit of load...I have been offered the caged replacement bearings but turned them down due to what I perceive as a inherently weaker system...a cage does nothing other than make them easier to install.. I’ve read in one post that the, spindles were...

    Old Dawes Galaxy

Good morning Robin...yes it surprised me too, pictures paint the truth...it’s an 80s frame but probably 85/6 The geometry looks right, no evidence of cold framing...the wheel nut spacing is 134mm Drop out is 135mm Please give me your opinion.. Ray
