    My latest wooden creation.

An amazing creation @videojetman . I wish I had a few of those skills. Like @wynne , a lot of my stuff starts as pallets. Buckingham Pallet just made me choke on my beer! Anyhow, don’t tell him as it is a surprise. Here’s a trophy I have made for my son who scored his first “5 For” a few...

    Wanted Cleats!! 🙏🏼

I had only used SPD pedals from 91 to a few years ago. I found I really liked Time pedals on the road bikes so I thought I would give the off road versions a try. Time pedals always offered more float than most of the others. Float is the movement you have whilst clipped in. Everyone is...

    Wanted Cleats!! 🙏🏼

I can’t remember exactly but most SPD types were SPD compatible I thought? I’m sure for example, I have some Girvin pedals that use the Shimano cleats. They (the Big S) used to make a multi release and single release cleat. I don’t suppose this has changed. There are so many Shimano pedals on...

Barnfind 1991 Giant Granite, any suggestions?

My mum has had her Granite for years. Her’s is more blue. A thoroughly worthy lower end bike that will go on and on. She has done thousands of miles on it.

That really does look like it has had an easy life.

    The Worst Dawes Edge Ever?

My son is graduating from Nottingham Trent Uni with a 2:1 in Pure Maths this summer. He has decided to stay in his accommodation for as long as the contract allows as he is very much enjoying playing cricket for a local village side. He wants to visit some outlying villages further away than he...

    Novice project Specialized Rockhopper

Are all the bolts the same length on the brakes? Check you got them the right way around. I never realised until very recently that the rear and fronts take different lengths (giggidy). Makes sense I suppose as rotation pushes the rear brakes inwards and the fronts away from the forks.

    Never tried them. Any good?

    Fkn hate V brakes

I wind the lever barrel adjuster out. Hold the arms together having already adjusted the blocks hitting the rim flat. With the arms together with the blocks on the rim, pull the cable through and do up. Now wind the barrel adjuster all the way back into the lever. If you have judged it right...

    Fkn hate V brakes

They speak very highly of you… I find them easier to get more stopping power out of. You can get by with two hands. Cantilevers always seem to require a third.

    carlhcyc feedback

Carl sold me some Time Atac pedals. They arrived in good time and were very securely parcelled up. Like Mr Motörhead above, I’m very happy. Thanks Carl.

    Headset and Brake Lever Qs.

Thanks guys. Yes, last night I removed the bit marked green. It stuck up a bit the other side and clearly needed to be gone. A 2mm Allen key then did the trick of moving the ‘bump’ down to the H end. The cable retainer flops around a bit now but once there is some cable tension there, it...

    Headset and Brake Lever Qs.

Rather than begin another new thread or hijacking @Tootyred thread also on V brake levers, I have edited this one. I want to fit V brakes to this scrapper bike. I know this means I need V brake specific levers that pull more cable. Rather than find dedicated V brake levers, I think I have...

    Honda motorbike

When the inevitable happens and you reach hospital, the fact you done gone broken your face won’t matter. You can just point at the chainstay and they’ll know what you need fitting. Looking at the brake!

    Headset and Brake Lever Qs.

Thanks both. The homemade welded headset press did the trick once again. I fear I’ll have to do without the tabbed (not tabbed really) washer as it is quite a high stack. I managed without one for years though so here’s hoping. I don’t think the bike is quite worth a build thread but I might...

    Headset and Brake Lever Qs.

This one isn’t treated with such luxury. All caged bearings are the same size. From that theory though, can we assume the taller one on the left goes at the bottom?

    Headset and Brake Lever Qs.

Hi All. I very rarely build from scratch so I forget things. My son has requested a bike to get him to some outlying Nottingham villages so as cheap as possible whilst functioning is the key. It might well be stolen. I have an old Dawes Edge frame with damaged BB threads that fits the bill...

The grim sound of carbon road bikes

One of these went past me earlier. They are very quick. Although I was towing a trailer, I don’t think it would have made much difference if I wasn’t. It was loud too! It sounded like the ultimate disc wheel. I suspect it would be louder inside it. I would still like a go though!
