Putting more dish into a wheel...how to do it?

Great advice, thanks. Now I look at it, it never had enough spacers, and the rear triangle was being forced in all the time. I'll have a play with some spacers and I might just get away with only a very small tweak to the dishing, if any at all is required. Thanks again, and good news that...

Putting more dish into a wheel...how to do it?

As my old 6 speed freewheel was knackered I've gone to a 7 speed, and although there is plenty clearance between the dropouts, it looks like I need to put a little more "dish" into the wheel, in effect keeping the hub where it is but moving the rim more to the driveside. I guess this is...

Drilled cables routing on bars...bad idea?

Nice one, thanks. In the bin they go then!

Drilled cables routing on bars...bad idea?

I'm rebuilding my old Claud Butler (see separate thread) and the new Charge bar tape arrives soon. The current bars have Shimano 105 Aero levers (just brakes, gears are on the downtube) but as they had the old foam "Grab On" grips the cables have been routed inside the bars, with the...

I've finished my Claud Butler rebuild...(56k warning!)

I guess you might be right...what I mean is that although I love my Trek and it's awesome off-road, of an evening I want to go for a quick spin mainly for the exercise, and I don't want to go off road and get the bike filthy to spend 20 minutes cleaning it afterwards, so a roadie seems like a...

I've finished my Claud Butler rebuild...(56k warning!)

Re: Nice spraying! It was pretty easy really, stripped the bike with Nitromors, wire brush and wire wool (wear gloves and goggles), and then varying grades of wet and dry, yours will probably only need minimal rubbing down if it's not rusty like this was. Washed all traces of Nitromors...

I've finished my Claud Butler rebuild...(56k warning!)

Hi...fairly new on here, and really enjoying the site. Recently got back into cycling, got a 2007 Trek Fuel EX7 MTB but I was hankering after a road bike (MTBs seem RUBBISH on road if you've ever ridden skinny tyres!) so I decided to dig my old 1980s Claud Butler Dalesman out of my mum's garage...

    Gears question...and wanted part!

Great, thanks for the reply. I've found (and bought) an downtube mounted Shimano SIS shifter on eBay, it's not 105 but it should do the job. Thanks for the explanation but I'm being a bit dim, do I want to set it up so that the unused click is with the lever fully forward (ie there is an...

    Gears question...and wanted part!

Hi New on here, and what a great site. I've rescued my old 1980s Claud Butler from my mum's garage and I've decided to give it a bit of a rebuild. At the moment it's got the really old non-index "gold arrow" Shimano 105 mechs and downtube shifters running on a 6 speed freewheel (not...

    Wanted-Shimano 105 index shifters

Hi...first post on what seems to be a great site! I've dug out my 1980s Claud Butler Dalesman which has not turned a wheel in over 10 years and it's having a bit of a makeover with a bit of a nod to the Charge Plug. At the moment it's got the really old Shimano 105 non index rear mech (the...
