The effect of powdercoating heat treated aluminium.

Anthony, 7005 aluminum is already "stiffer and stronger" than it needs to be when compared to 6061, the benchmark for reliability and durability. Adding an additional grain enhancer to 7005 helps to highlight the primary failure mode of a too-light alu frameset, cracking due to fatigue...

The effect of powdercoating heat treated aluminium.

There is absolutely no risk at all in (re)powdercoating aluminum frames. None. Don't re-powder a so-called "scandium" frame, but shit, don't buy one of those disposable things in the first place. (Spoken from a collected dozens of thousands of frames worth of experience over the last 30 years)

    Stripping anodizing?

Take them to an anodizer and ask them to strip it. The right should would do it for beer or charge you ~$30 USD over here. I'm OVER stripping paint and ano myself.

    Beautiful TIG Welds

Some recent bead by my co-worker, some guy named Frank The Welder; Frank lays down different shapes and styles of bead on different bikes for shits and giggles and the sake of doing cool stuff... Sometimes there is no bead at all.... FACT: Most of the "perfect"...

    Spooky Bandwagon

Guys, Trust me. There really, really, really aren't very many Hayes or Hope 22mm calipers or caliper halves floating around in the world right now. Good luck! Also- after many requests I finally added Bandwagon and Metalhead sticker kits to our store. I'm pretty sure I still owe some...

Frank lays down "Yeti" bead when he works on these bikes It's flatter and more washed out than the welds I usually specify. I like 'em big. Parker liked 'em bigger. Speaking of flat this is at the Spooky Safehouse and Country Club deep in the heart of Vermont ski country; My...

Missy Giove 1992 ARC AS Rebuild

You may have bought that stem from Frank but it came out of MY parts stash. I am REALLY GLAD that it ended up on that bike. I found the stem in the parts bin in a bike shop I worked at circa 2000. It already had the pro cut done on it but it was still in new condition. It was from the...

Does that thing still say "Cary ******* Fridrich" on the downtube? If it does you have to post a picture so that Cary can be jealous of how awesome that bike looks! I just got two 650b hardtail orders from the UK this week. Something makes me think that your bike might be part of that!

Angie's got her new FTW FB10 - hoorah!

That bike looks familiar! For what it's worth we only have one medium and one small frame that are available for sale out of the batch of frames that Angie is getting here new bike from. There's a 650b proto in there for me and Frank too...

I decided that this might be a good place to dump pictures of Yeti's that come through the shop for repairs or to get replicated. I'm guessing that some of this stuff might belong to members here at Retrobike, so perhaps I shouldn't share... This showed up yesterday; It's the smallest...

According to Frank this is the first prototype of the ATAC stem, circa '88. It's in a filing cabinet labeled "do not take pictures of this stuff and put it on Retrobike". By most accounts the ATAC was the first commercially available oversized aluminum stem. What's the timeline on the...

Wooohooo. That new bike looks wicked all raw and rigid and sloppy! You'll have more fun if you increase the fork length. With the external cup and a 4" fork it'll be more playfull and playfull is good. The build on your CX bike looks pretty fun. What are the brakes?
