Eddy Merckx Professional, advice needed please.

Hi retro(road)bikers. Long time reader/occasional contributor to the MTB section here. Pretty much only riding the road these days though! I have a 1976 Raleigh Super Course Mk II (town bike) and a 2013 Defy 1 for longer jaunts. I have a question regarding a bike I just inherited - It's...

This is what $40us gets you in Seattle.:)

Great find. I had the 1996 Eldridge (frame looks identical) which had pretty much the same spec (mine had rigid (rockstar) forks). Stolen last year  Damn i loved that bike. 40 bucks? - amazing.

    Date my Explosif?

Thanks for clearing that up Anthony - i found it hard to believe it was an 18".

    Work bikes

lol. I don't know about that - just yesterday I saw a pothole that you would struggle to climb out of. Riding the suburban streets at night here is as good as offroad frankly!. Much worse than Welsh potholes!. And don't even start me on Boston drivers....

    Date my Explosif?

The guy who sold it to me claimed it ws an 18" The catalogue says no 17" in 1994, but your measurements are correct. Am i just measuring wrong!?! Regarding pricing of second hand bikes over here, whilst new bikes are cheaper, I would say second hand prices seem higher (i.e people are willing...

    Date my Explosif?

Thanks for the info Anthony, the sticker on the seat tube does indeed say Tange Ultimate Ultrastrong. It is in great condition, save for a few scratches on the rear triangle. From reading the spec sheet it seems as if the brakes (Ritchey Logic), levers (Dia-compe SS-7) and fork are also not...

    Date my Explosif?

Yeah, I thought $125 was a bit of a steal, especially as i'd paid $175 for a 1995 Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo a week before. Felt a bit bad taking it off his hands at that price!

    Date my Explosif?

PM sent. Any idea of size? - I was told 18", but a seems a bit on the small side (but not for me - it's perfect!). Cheers.

    Date my Explosif?

Do you have a bigger picture of that so i can see the spec list? Also could you hazard a guess at the size? I was told 18" but i think it is smaller than that! Cheers, NO

    Date my Explosif?

"Treat it like a Klingon and let it die in battle, Sto'vo'kor awaits" :D I'm inclined to agree - it deserves to be ridden properly imo.

    Date my Explosif?

Thanks Huntso. I don't think i'm going to restore in back to original spec (is that considered sacrilege here?) - My next decision is do i turn it into my everyday commuter or do hit the trails? - I don't think it's seen that much off-road action!

    Date my Explosif?

Thanks guys, i thought from the "mountain shock" decal on the top tube that it was a 1993. It has been meticulously maintained, and rides like a new bike. Could anyone shed any light on whether the titec handlebar and velocity stem are original parts? I know the Thomson elite seatpost isn't -...

Newbie: Steel frames and a stolen Eldridge

What type of &%$% nicks a bike when the rider is on the floor? :( You wouldn't believe how many times i've asked myself this question.... Reanimation: Thanks for that, definitely leaning towards cromo.
