not sure whats up with a the old sturmey 3 speed i have basically it works lovely in second. wont click into down first and when clicks into third spins like chains come off and doesent pull. v odd.

grrr. ordered the fizik for 11 quid. from wiggle too.

couldnt find anything I liked so I've just gone for some black fizik tape instead.

I'm after some retro looking white pvc tape. not benotto thin, more like 80's white peugeot tape but not as modern as fizik. anyone know where i can get any been looking on ebay but nothing.

well first things first, get rid of the nackered old tyres and get it up and running. worryingly im starting to like the horrendous cinelli tape.

it has an SR stem, seatpost, sakae road champion bars (not rando) and exage aero levers. all other deore mechs/chainset. Shimano brakes, 105 levers and headset. the giveaway is the spoke carrier and rack mounts and the headbadge is missing so a respray job. will do some pics tomorrow...

picked up bike this morning. I'm 99% sure its a randonneur. it has the canti's ,has the front and rear rack mounts as well as the spoke carrier like above. its all shimano deore (triple) with 105 headset and levers. all looks solid, its bloody filthy though so will take about 2 gallon...

decided to take a chance, make a cracking winter/touring bike with the canti's I reckon. first to go is that god awful cinelli tape! Some mudguards too!

Got offered this. cant find another like it though online. canti's, front rack mounts and 3 ring chainset, say defo purpose built touring bike.. doesent look like a raleigh royal? is it a randonneur with the front mounts? Thinking could make an interesting quick project, new tape...

yep, think we have narrowed it down to 60's-ish. gonna pick it up either tomorrow or sat, will report back then.

theres a 1968 dawes galaxy. decals look much more similar to that, dont you think?, you'd never have that stem on an 1980's bike I dont think?[/img]

I always thought cottered cranks were phased out by raleigh in early 80's? The bike doesent look as late as that though, stem and pedals hint at older.

picking it up tomorrow. the stem and bars just look older and cottered dawes should pre 70's? my gut feeling is that its a late fifties/early sixties model thats been "upgraded" to crappy simplex mechs during the 70's and the leather saddle has been replaced somewhere along the line too...

Just buying this... anyone give me and age? details? cotter pins so 70's? looks earlier though maybe 60's? Stem looks odd too is that a reynolds stem?

I like the bike, just not the handlebars. some rando bars would look cracking on that.

I have one of these with the original shimano 600 groupset. sadly the paint was a bit nacked by the time I got mine so its since been powdercoated grey. the frames really are lovely.
