    Late 90's SYNCROS polished cranks...

Easy enough to date mine, being the 10th anniversary ones. Partly why I got them to mate with my 97 Bontrager. Pardon my ignorance, is the STD that bit that attaches 2 of the chainring bolts with the crankarms? I've also seen these with the Syncros engraved on different ends of the crankarm...

    Late 90's SYNCROS polished cranks...

Guilty. They look like they have a brushed finish, don't they? Other ones I've seen seem to be polished. Had my sister in the states get them for me since the seller didn't ship to Switzerland. Still waiting... Sweet Merlin - always lusted after one of those.

Thanks a lot. Now if I could just find some Texas 'cue over here life would be perfect...

    Late 90's SYNCROS polished cranks...

That was an empty post, must've hit the wrong button or something. My bike has a Pace RC-31 rigid fork, not a Marzocchi. http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=172034 Made several changes since I posted the photos, Thomson setback post, some blue bits, and most significantly...

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=172034 http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=172034 Have since added downtube decal, carbon brake booster, thomson setback post (salsa didn't hold the ti rails on the saddle very well), blue salsa seat collar, and a blue C. King...

    Late 90's SYNCROS polished cranks...

Crank was $350. Originally wanted $500 which seems a bit ridiculous, even if it is NOS. That Ventana is sweet! Met my wife in Addison, btw. Small world...

One more thing, there's a minty 42T Syncros chainring on eBay right now to replace that Salsa.

    Late 90's SYNCROS polished cranks...

Yes, the crankset is 1997, same as my Bonty. Regarding your new frame, I always thought it would be cool to get a new custom frame and stick some old school bits on, sort of the best of both worlds. Don't see many modern cranks that look as good as retro CNC stuff... Where abouts in Texas are...

    Late 90's SYNCROS polished cranks...

No expert here, but I believe it's a process where the cranks were sort of 'rough' forged then milled/engraved and polished to achieve that lovely finish. Sweet cranks, I actually have the 10th anniversary set shipping over from the states for my 97 Bontrager Race in the next couple weeks. Looks...

1997 Bontrager Race Resto - Completed

Oh, and the backwards front brake. Looks kinda cool imho. Sort of turns the whole fork into a brake booster! Besides, it has a front disc mount, so I could keep my setup and run an Avid BB7 mechanical front disk if so inclined.

1997 Bontrager Race Resto - Completed

The ride is great, more so I suppose because it's ultra light, as much as anything. Acceleration is the thing that impresses me most, and climbing. The fork also works well with the geometry of the frame, I think the rake works well to somewhat tame the front end. Also, I think the 440mm...

1997 Bontrager Race Resto - Completed

Jen told me she can drill holes in the badge and provide colour matched screws. Alternatively, she suggested JB Weld adhesive. She seems to think these solutions are superior to double sided tape. I glued mine. You'll need a clamp to hold the badge in place whilst it cures. Use adhesive very...

Hot rods painted to match the frame. That would really be sweet.

1997 Bontrager Race Resto - Completed

Thanks for the compliments. Good idea on the brakes - I think I'd probably also get a matching XTR chainset as well if I made the swap in the future. Arch supreme is a fantastic brake, however. I'd love to find a set in black. Jen Green headbadge was $75. In silver, she told me the price is...

1997 Bontrager Race Resto - Completed

Recently got my Bonty back from the powdercoater. They did a fantastic job... I must give thanks to Alberto Friedrich at Stilrad in Zurich, especially as the frame's finish beforehand was totally trashed - truly beautiful work. Build (these parts were on the bike when I got it) M950 XTR...

    Result! Swansong 1" Pace RC-31

Sorry Gus, my commiserations. I just secured the last ever Pace RC-31 fork with 1" steerer, in 420mm. It went on Pace's website for sale only last Friday, and I bought it yesterday. When I was on the phone with Adrian Carter from Pace today asking him a few questions, he told me "15 minutes...

    Bonty Resto

Well then I know it's not a Race Lite, as my headtube is different than the one shown on the link. I'm confident it's pre-Trek - look at the beautiful welding on the frame - not mass market stuff, but then I've never seen a post-Trek Bontrager. I can't locate a serial number on the bike...

    Bonty Resto

Got this Bontrager from eBay in 2004 and finally am beginning a much needed refurb. Apparently it was one of the last handmade Bontys from Santa Cruz, and was shipped minus the decal kit so was never fitted. I also don't recall the eBay seller indicating which Bonty he thought this is. The...
