    Hardtail/Disc Brakes

    If you want to, why not. Although, I think people are getting way too hung up on having disc brakes. A good set of V brakes is more than up to the job for anything other than serious wet muddy riding conditions. Do you really need to retro fit disc brakes for commuting?

    Looks normal to me. :? Of course, 'normal' is in the eye of the beholder I guess. If you are used to fat DH tyres then they might look skinny.

    My first 'MTB' was a Raleigh Grifter (does that count?!? :? ), back at the beginning of the eighties. It taught me a very important lesson. Don't use your shoe as an impromptu 'brake' jammed on the back wheel - just buy new pads, 'cause brake pads are a lot cheaper than shoes to replace...
