    Some things you can't foresee like those notches. Looks like you made short-work of them though. Cool brake booster too. I had a bid in on a Shimano and lost so I ended up getting a Salsa instead.

    Very nice/focused pics. So the replacement one is older/more retro? I can't run disc on my 1996 Trek even if I wanted to. None of the aftermarket stuff will fit, not that I want to run disc.

    bad stroke of luck about the brake boss but from the sound of things, you'll make it right. I really like how its looking. My 96 Y has a polished rear triangle too.

    I think some of the bikes were simply abandoned prior to being stripped. I've encountered, on occasion, what I would term- "light-recreational types" of riders, who would abandon a bike for a flat tyre. There are also those who have to leave town on short notice to pursue other endeavours...
