    Keeping white cork tape clean

I just use a little citrus based cleaner, seems to work OK. Ultimately though i think its impossible to keep it as white as the day you first put it on!

Peugeot Puymorens restoration - help and parts needed

If the rear hub matches the front (would be fh-6207) then it should be a 6 speed uniglide cassette (ie freehub). These usually require 2 chainwhips to remove. However, Sheldon Brown gives a neat trick for removing them without any special tools: About a quarter of the way down the page...

Peugeot Puymorens restoration - help and parts needed

Without seeing the parts its difficult to tell, but i would hazard a guess that most of that is salvagable to one degree or another, chainrings dont look worn out from pics, nor does the cassette. Mostly it just needs a bloody good clean! To do this properly requires removing parts from...

    Peugeot 753 Project

Re: Awesome 753 Pro Nice to see someone with the same bike, do you still have the frame? It might be worth repairing? Thankfully mine seems mostly rust free. Ive got a Peugeot 653 with 7sp Ultegra that I might move across to this bike.

    Sacrilege or common sense?

Looks good to me :). Must admit i agree with the stem, in terms of modern gear the things i like the least on road bikes are generally the stems and some of the chainsets (yours is fine) which often look bulky to my eyes.

Is it a bike theft attempt conundrum?

This happened to me years ago. Rented pair of bolt croppers, problem solved. Weirdly no one batted an eye or stopped me as i wandered through Leicester with a parge pair of croppers and proceeded to chop through the other persons lock. Pointless involving the police.

    Replacing an older cassette

Eh? So does 7 speed uniglide though, ie no lockring, the smallest cog screws on the outside of the freehub.

    Replacing an older cassette

Quick thought, have you considered replacing your front small chainring with something smaller than the 42t that is likely there at the moment?

    Replacing an older cassette

Sounds like its likely a uniglide freehub. Most 6 or 7 speed (i think the 7 should be ok)uniglide cassettes should work (if you can find one, they dont make them anymore), be careful with dura ace uniglide stuff as i think the splines on the freehub were different. If you have indexing...

Shimano early Ultegra or Dura Ace Rear Mech with 10 Speed

The 8 speed tricolor should work no problems (the dura ace would require alternate calbe routing and would likely be a bit off even then). Firstly, it should have enough travel to cover the highest to lowest cog. Secondly, as the derailleur isnt where the indexing is (thats done by the...

    7 speed to 8

Yeh, i didnt mention that as a possibly slightly harder option (or one a LBS is not likely to undertake for you). You'd also need 9 speed levers for indexing and probably a 9 speed narrow chain. But would be cool to do :D
  15. Q

    7 speed to 8

If you have a rear wheel with a shimano cassette freehub then that freehub can be removed and changed for a 8 speed freehub. The wheel will likely require a slight re-dish afterwards. Obviously unless you are running it in friction mode you will need 8 sp shifters too As you are...
