Ringle 'holey' seat seat QR - pewter or silver

Not sure of the difference in colour if there is one between the pewter and silver Ringle 'holey' seat seat QR? And don't mind ti or steel if this is an option too (it was on the matching wheel QR's). Don't need a collar though. Thanks, Ian

    1" steerer bouncys

Thetford is about the least bumpy riding in the world! Bring your ridgids to S Wales for some proper bumpiness... (got some mid 90s Pace RC36 @ £100 or later RC38 Airforce 2 @ £150, just serviced, if you're interested!) ian

    road stem on a MTB

I run a control tech and trek icon 1" road stem on different mtbs with normal mtb handlebars with no problems. I'm fairly light - 11 stone or ?160lbs - and both are 1 bolt stems. This means as you tighten the bolt past where it would be with a road bar, the two halves of the clamp almost but not...

Pace RC50? hub blue anodised bit/bits?

Aye, it's nice isn't it! And very unselfishly it's going on a secret singlespeed for my girl (had hoped to build it while she was on hols and give complete bike as a surprise but a car hit me and broke my elbow so it's not so secret anymore - but I can take my time sourcing the perfect bits!) ian

8 speed xt rear mech jockey wheel bolt x 1!

OK - update with details - I need a non-countersunk jockey wheel bolt from an 8spd XT M739 rear mech. Or anythong else that will fit - the newer contersunk ones do not. Cheers! Ian

Pace RC50? hub blue anodised bit/bits?

Ken - not actually got it yet, it's an SS ti hope rear hub bought on here and in the mail at the moment: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12776 and am trying to make the pace hub match with red one side and blue the other though it's not the flanges as in the hope but a...

Is fitting suspension forks to a retro MTB a faux pas?

I suspect there are a couple of reasons folks in the UK ride older frames with newer forks Rumfy - these are my guesses/personal opinions: - The weather. If you actually want to ride an old frame with sussy forks as opposed to keep in a garage to look at, the mud will eat through a set of...

    Earliest V-brakes/'best' cantis?

Great answers! Love the odd brakes website... A direct pull brake is then one where the wire pulls on one arm directly at about 90 degrees to the arm and pulls the other arm towards that arm? What is the difference between direct pull and 'v' - is it just a shimano name for the same thing? And...

Respray or re-engineer old Bontrager Privateer

Not actually done it myself, but asked Argos in Bristol who will weld a mount and extra bracing tube between seatstay and chainstay (as I was advised by keith bontrager himself after a few envelope calculations) for a decent price, and do a lovely (though not super tough) paint job for quite a...

    Earliest V-brakes/'best' cantis?

When did the earliest v-brakes come out? Who were they by and were they any good? And what year were the first Shimano ones - presumably XTR? Alternatively, if this is a bit late for a 92/93 frame, what are peoples thoughts/opinions on the best performing cantis in terms of power and ease of...

8 speed xt rear mech jockey wheel bolt x 1!

Grrrr, seem to have lost jus the one bolt from an 8spd XT rear mech - the first incarnation of 8 spd xt. From memory it is countersunk where 9spd xt isn't but will chack to see if it's actually the other way around! ian

Wanted - cheap sti road levers

Jones - sat here with a pinned n plated broken elbow - knocked off by a car - and in a second coincidence, the accident mashed my 7spd RSX right hand shifter (along with me, saddle, pannier, rear mech etc...). So - are these shifters still available? I'd be super grateful if they are (though...

    Pace full susser

Sooo, the 'what was your dream bike' thread got me thinking about this - how many people's dream bike never really existed?! As I said in that thread, I wanted the 'soon to be released' Pace XC full susser from about 92/93, it was even advertised in mag ads with prices and 'coming soon', but...
