STX RC rear derailleur - is this right?

1997BlackCS, FYI. For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that there are actually two parts missing from the Rear Mech pics you provided; the missing back plate that respondents have already noted and the B-Seal Ring. The B-Seal Ring is a dish shaped plastic bushing/spacer that fits between...

    pedal pedal wobble wobble...

Gentlemen, The pic relays seveal hundred thousand words and perhaps 30 pages of posts. I move that said carefully removed crank arm and parts be shipped to Woz, LGF, and FC forensic analysis in search of any trace residue of any type of AS compound, grease, lubricant, or corrosion inhibitor...

Removing outer chain ring from a Shimano M739 crank

Woz, Decent tip on the technique that essentially bolts the removal tool to the lockring and the rest of the spider. Gonna try that next time. I did try the technique of clamping the removal in my bench vise. I was unable to apply sufficient torque on the crank arm to break the lockring loose...

Removing outer chain ring from a Shimano M739 crank

Woodyuk, I've learned the hard way (and at some expense). A couple of recommendations... The special Shimano tool mentioned above is probably hanging wall at your local bike shop. I've attached a couple of pics of it. See if you can borrow it, or rent it. Due to the age of the M739 groupo, this...

    How can I stop?

I only have 5 (fortunate?). They have not become houseguests, yet. I've been told to just give it time... I bought a 98 Moab for its parts and had its frame hanging in the garage (we Retroholics tend to be pack rats). A ride buddy recently cracked his head tube on his Mongoose Rockadile. An...

If you ride (or race) regularly, are you CPR certified?

Thanks for the responses. A second series of questions, if I may? These are intended for those who race or ride in sponsored events (fondos, organized group rides etc.). If you race, what are your expectations (or assumptions) about the availability of life-saving medical intervention should...

If you ride (or race) regularly, are you CPR certified?

Would your willingness to assist be conditional on whether you were racing competively?

If you ride (or race) regularly, are you CPR certified?

The core group was on him for 20 - 25 minutes before an AED arrived. He was extremely fortunate. I'm not sure how else to describe it. Miracle? The cosmic tumblers of fate precisely aligned and stacked the deck in favor of the downed rider. He arrested and collapsed at the gates to a cemetery no...

If you ride (or race) regularly, are you CPR certified?

A question for the membership, for those that are willing to share a bit of information about themselves. Do you race OR ride regularly (one or more times per week), particularly with other riders? If you do, are you CPR certified and do you keep you certification (and training up to date)? Do...

What do you do when being chased by a dog?

Update. The little yipper was out again yesterday morning. Same drill. He came running down their driveway barking and didn't stop at the road. Sunday morning, rural location = no traffic. I decided to give hime the full treatment. He'd chase/bark, I'd pedal and stay just far enough out of reach...

What do you do when being chased by a dog?

A question for the collective readership here. You are out for a ride. A dog comes running out of somebodies yard yard barking and gives chase. What is your response? Heretofore, I've tried to distinguish between the truly aggressive ones (pepper spray them if/as needed), and the territorial...

    Square taper, grease or not!!!!

Woz, you were right! It was indeed epic! Maybe even cathartic? Who could have known? Some 23 pages worth, irritation, profanity, whose got the biggest pecker swagger, insults, anger, liberal amounts of mindless drivel, references to greased Nazis, inuendo, and tripe, all rounding out with...

Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding - Round 10. Dedicated to Woz, Wookie, LGF, FC and the rest... Yet the No minions sought release for their right to be sans grease and fought to have fair say, so the RB bastions they did storm, until their views became the norm and the thread still runs to this day...

    Square taper, grease or not!!!!

Dunno here. Might I suggest dueling pistols at twenty paces? Or perhaps we can approach this with a bit of a website programming change. We each have a profile. Its a simple change to add a required attribute that must be populated before you are allowed to access or post. The attribute would be...

    Square taper, grease or not!!!!

Perhaps we need to take a different approach with the esteeemed membership in the No camp. Aybody from the No camp ever try welding them on? How about drill & pin? Advantages: No fuss with the correct torque business. No worries about them coming loose either.
