    Older Climbmax or Newer Sovereign

Are we to assume the same size, condition and colours?? I'd want to see both before making a decision. Also stop teasing as I'd be happy with either in my size but they are rather hard to get over this way

BOTM Dec 2012: FAT Vs Klein Vs Yeti

Much better than combining all three and producing a Yeti frame with Yo Eddy fork and Mission Control stem... ;)

BOTM Dec 2012: FAT Vs Klein Vs Yeti

Is FAT Vs Klein Vs Yeti the retrobike version of Rock/Paper/Scissors??

    Rohloff

The torque characteristics of an electric motor could have damaged the lower 7 gears thus the drag and extra noise you are commenting on. I’d be tempted to change the oil in the hub and see if that makes any noticeable difference

    Chain wear checker

I couldn't see where anyone had answered this bit, but all bike chains are 1/2" pitch any any checker will work on the different width chains. I have a Park Tools and Rohloff and really there isn't any difference in how they measure so anything will do and you'll soon learn when to change the...

    Chain wear checker

I’ll put a different spin on it. I let one of my 9 speed XTR drivetrains wear a little too much but decided to change to drivetrain when it starts to play up. That was three years and ~5000km ago and it’s still working beautifully. So all is not lost if you let things wear a bit past the...

    Romax or Thunderbolt?

Personally I'd have the Romax for no other reason than that's the one I've love to own. So who has one for sale??

    Marzocchi seals help please!

The M Arch appeared in mid to late 99 for MY2000... And they are fine for your fork and are the "improved" design in comparison to the earlier ones.

    Who Still Rides Retrobikes

I don’t ride retro anymore as religious extremists ruined the experience for me…

    Who races retro bikes still?

To quantify the difference between retro and modern performance though you have to keep the rider common, and thus fitness and skill can for the large part be removed from the argument ;)

    Who races retro bikes still?

I'd say whatever your skill or fitness level a rider will be slower on a retro bike than on a new bike when XC racing/riding. (unless the trails have next to no technical difficulty). At the gumby end of the scale I've seen many people upgrade their old rigid retro machine to something new...

    Who races retro bikes still?

In reply to your musings you can pick up a 2-3 year old XC race bike with full XTR or equivalent in a lot of cases cheaper than a lot of retro race stuff without too much trouble. Weight isn't the disadvantage that many people think it is. For example my 2004 Turner 5 Spot with 5" of travel...

    Who races retro bikes still?

If I'm not that fussed about the race sometimes I'll race the old bikes, but they are all slower than my modern bikes.

    Lets have some rides!

Now that we have our own little section lets start having some rides, shed sessions or whatever retrobike event takes your fancy. I'm not sure how much traffic we'll get here but I'm thinking that it may be a good idea to include the state in the event title but its not that critical. If...

Daisy Hill Vintage ride :) [QLD]

Would love to come for a ride but the distance is a bit of a killer for me. Your P23 is looking great too - and much nicer than my P23  Note: I added in the state to the title too.

    wheres mousemat?

I too have purchased a bit of stuff from mousemat in the past and he's been a real gent. At the moment I'd just like to get in contact with him (nothing serious) and thought someone may still be in contact with him to be able to say he's on holiday or busy at work etc etc as I'm limited to...

    Australian Retro Roll Call

Actually a dedicated section would be great and a good way to get a few more rides happening (even if we are a little spread out ). I'm happy to moderate as long as its not too big a task.

    wheres mousemat?

Yes his last posts were about 12 months ago, but I'd like to get hold of him if someone has an email etc which works.
