    Pete Matthews interview

Not seen Pete for a few years and am also surprised he's still 'at it' (wheel building that is!). To me, building wheels is a Black Art, practiced by mature men in the privacy of their sheds, workshops and back rooms of old bike shops! I rode against Pete in the 60's in local events on...

What's your favourite road tyre of all time?

Wolber 18mm tubulars fitted to Assos aero rims, inflated to somewhere around 150psi! Really 'sang' on smooth tarmac on an early summer morning on the 'Boro. I also liked Barum tubulars which seemed to go on and on and very rarely punctured.

Older Lyonaisse Artwork Aluminium tube muffed - C.M.P. Dural "Gottfried"

I find that once the epoxy has cured to a 'cheesy' state it is possible to cut away the excess with a sharp craftknife or similar.

    Resto mod Pegoretti

Very interesting article about the Pegoretti brand (and the man himself) in the January 2023 edition of 'Cyclist' magazine.

Older Lyonaisse Artwork Aluminium tube muffed - C.M.P. Dural "Gottfried"

Can you get Araldite or Devcon epoxy? In my experience these are very good - but use the 24 hour 'original' type NOT the 5 minute version which I have never found to be effective in the long term. Clean away all old adhesive, clean both surfaces with a light abrasive (fine emery paper)...

    Frame identification help please

The fork rake is different to Nob's photo but did Raleigh (Industries) use different rakes across the brands? My first thought was that it is a Carlton rather than a Raleigh but I do remember some Raleighs having the 'fade' paint finish.

    Whats this strange bicycle part

I thought it was a Sturmey part until I enlarged the photo and read Shimano. Did/do Shimano make hub gears?

    Reynolds promotional film.

Well, that should sort things out for people with queries about the various grades of 531 and 753. I 've been confused myself for ages after Reynolds introduced all the 'new' options! Thanks for the link.

Mountain Biking magazine Feb '93 issue

While 'tidying' my man-cave I came across this - now 30 years old! How did that happen...........!! Anyway, I bought it BITD because it has a test of the Diamond Back Dual Response, an example of which I had just bought at the time. I didn't really get on with it and it was 'passed on' some...

Carhall Frame Trying to identified The Frame.

I believe the heart cutouts were a standard Prugnat design used by many builders.

    Stan Saunders

See the thread on Holdsworth Roi de Velo. He's mentioned as a pro. for Holdsworth on the adverts.

    Holdsworth Roi De Velo....?

Interesting that Stan Saunders is mentioned in the advert considering the recent thread asking for info on him on RB.

Classic British Bicycles (200 makers mapped!)

Very interesting project, it must have taken a lot of time and effort to put it together. But how about Steve Elsworth in Wetherby? Late 80's after he left MKM along with Bernard Macklam in Leeds.

    Help dating Birmingham Sun frame

Many thanks for the link. Not come across the site before. Paddy and Eileen were old friends of mine from back in the mid-60's. Sadly Paddy passed away several years ago and last I heard of Eileen was that she was in a home in the Wrexham area. I occasionally am in touch with their daughter...

    Help dating Birmingham Sun frame

First time I've seen a Clifton on RB. One of the 'missing' brands! They were very popular with Birkenhead/Wirral area riders when I was a lad. I visited the shop once, opposite the Birkenhead Mersey Tunnel (definitely NOT Liverpool!) entrance I seem to remember. I've no knowledge of who...

    Currys Elizabethan

Well, I remember Curry's selling bikes and that they generally seemed to be a metallic purple colour. Did they have their own factory or were they bought in?

    Brian Robinson

I'm sorry to say Brian was really not well enough to be able to ride for some time. I last saw him on a bike about 3 years ago when him and a friend caught me and a mate up going to the cafe - and then sat on our wheels. It was only a mile to the cafe so probably not worth coming through -...

    Clive Stuart Cycles

I've spoken with Brian and he confirms the frame was a Roger Kowalski build. No idea where it is now or if it even still exists!

Interesting. I didn't know Graham had so much on You Tube. I'll have to spend a day or two catching up!
