    Marin Bear Valley SE

Hi Alan I'm afraid I beat you to it. I've always fancied a Bear Valley too. I'll let you know if I don't get on with it or it comes up for sale for any reason. I'm moving to Chamonix for a year and need an all terrain commuter/tourer. This things going to see the world.

Converting retro mtb French Alps commuter - any tips?

Cheers guys, pretty much what I was thinking. Anybody familiar with AlpineStar? Seem to be a few of them coming up, and the name seems apt, but I don't really know anything about them.

    Cantilevers Versus V brakes

Re: canti vs v's Have to say I've been round Cannock tonnes of time on the same V blocks. That was just bog standard Shimano blocks too, plenty of stopping power. I'd say if you'll be doing serious mounting biking go with V's for safety, but if you're not doing anything too off-the-hook...

    Why no love for...

They catered for a lot of the cheaper brands. I had some on my 98 Kona Hahanna when I bought it new bitd. I hated them, every time I set off on a cold morning (paper round usually) they were just locked up. Damn heavy too. Just left a bad taste in my mouth, didn't even consider RST when I...

Converting retro mtb French Alps commuter - any tips?

Hey gang I'm moving to the alps in a few months and I'll need a cheap bike that can do it all; snow, mountains, load-carrying, commuting etc. and be locked up outside at night. Looking at a simple 90's mountain bike, tange/cromoly frame and two seperate braze-ons on the rear dropout for rack...

Confession time - 'I have not ridden a bike since...'

About three weeks now, and almost got locked in at Sherwood Pines. Tried to go again the next week, even had the bike on the car and set off, then ended up buying a new car instead  Then realised I couldn't afford it and I'm having to sell one of my bikes so I can buy food :(

    Wothca, new member....with a question.

I had this problem with my Trek 4500. Problem was it had it's original seatpost. Never did solve it but it was damned annoying.

    Drops on retro machine?

Yeah basic rule is just brace for impact, always feels like your landing a lot harder than you actually are. Used to hammer my 88 CB Cape Wrath round Cannock Chase a lot and the bike held out ok, little buckling in the wheels after about 5 or so laps but I was going pretty fast. My wrists...

SOLD - 1986 Revell Romany Touring Bike 22"

*Update* Finally added some decent pictures and got a few more details Testing the water with my Revell Romany serial number FR866675. Need the money and I find the riding position a bit stretched out (I have quite long legs and short torso for my height). I'll try and describe it to the best...

    Honjo in the UK?

£44.18 from Practical Cycles or £46.21 direct from Gilles Berthoud. Unfortunately PC don't seem to have them in the size I want (50mm long), still may be worth emailing them. Much easier to get them from a UK store that speaks english.

    Honjo in the UK?

I was just reaching the same conclusion. My SKS ones have snapped and a new set is £30 plus p+p, or I can get the Gilles ones for what seems around £40 plus p+p. No brainer really. Where are you getting yours from and how much if you don't mind me asking?

    Honjo in the UK?

Don't know of anyone. We don't seem to have much choice when it comes to non-plastic mudguards.
