    Large steel frame & forks

Re: Large steel frame & forks with mudguard eyes. Bagpuss, is the orbit still up for sale? Just looking at the bottom bracket, there looks to be something in there, is there anything I need to know before offering you some money?

    Wolber Campag/Shimano 7spd wheels new

I'm not sure what I should be measuring here. My frame's away being painted at the moment but I've still got the wheels here. I've measure the total distance inside the axle, from end to end, it's 133mm. This'd be the bit the skewers go through with the final 5mm or so on each side going through...

    Wolber Campag/Shimano 7spd wheels new

I'm going to ask some really newbie questions here as I've done a bit of reading about these rims and I can't seem to find a definative answer, so sorry if what I'm asking sound a bit daft. First off are they 700's? Secondly, what size tyre would be ideal for them? Finally, what's the width of...

Wasn't the record sprint black with golds rims etc? Not trying to be awkward, just making sure you've got the right name etc?

Replacing bottom bracket and headset questions

Just had a word with the place that's doing my paint job, they can machine the forks down to fit the new headset. Thanks for the heads-up on that.

    Interpreting the world of chains....

Thanks for the advice. I had a look at the chain that was on there last night, it's a sachs, but there's no other info on there, other that it's french. I'll take a butchers at ebay, see what I can turn up.

    Interpreting the world of chains....

I'm just getting knee deep in a revamp of my '84 raleigh record ace, and it's only right and fair that she gets a nice new chain. It's got a 6 speed cassette on there, is there any problems to look out for when buying a chain? Is there an weight benefit to fitting a chain designed for a 9 or 10...

    80's Raleigh Record Ace

In fact, I should've had a proper look before I posted: You can get them on ebay of all places! Now I need to find out how to actually fit them, as they're fairly different to pop rivets. Hmmm.

    80's Raleigh Record Ace

I've got a rivet gun, it's getting such small rivets that's the issue, the heads on them are about 2mm wide! To give you an idea of what they're like, this is it fitted:

    80's Raleigh Record Ace

Blast from the past here! I've decided now that the winter's upon us, it's probably the best time to git the old girl tidied up a bit. I've stripped it right back and it'll hopefully be going off to somewhere like Bob Jacksons in the next week or so. I'm not going for a resto of the original...

    Polishing aluminium

If you want a brushed type finish as opposed to polished you can use to fine wire wool and plenty of wd40 to good effect. It's not going to be the same as anodised but it will dull down and shine you get trying to rub out any scratches.

Replacing bottom bracket and headset questions

Hi there. I registered on here a while back, fresh with enthusiasm after purchasing a lovely '84 raleigh record ace, and have since spent just about zero time on here. Sorry about that. It's because I've not really done much cycling, I bought a bit of a project house and have spent much of my...
