    Diamond Back Apex ‘Raw’ Frame

I have one of these and it came up very well after doing just this. I would recommend not bothering with a relaquer. Mine had loads of rust around the bottom bracket which all came right off using crumpled foil and lemon juice from memory. They're very nice frames!

    Such a shame..

He told me his local dump, but also that he'd been back today and didn't see them sadly..

    Such a shame..

I'm too far away, but I've asked for the sake of anyone closer. Would love to contribute to another survivor!

    Such a shame..

The seller mentioned Charles Fagg - he seemed involved in the shop too but I'm not sure how. Such a shame - I'd been after a steel Kili for ages too..

    Such a shame..

Really, are there more? What's the story then - does this all check out?

    Such a shame..

So I found this listing today for 'Ritchey tubed' frames and instantly recognised the mid 90s Saracen silhouette & remembered that the Kilis had Ritchey dropouts.. To cut a long story short, it turns out these were tange prestige Kili frames rebranded as 'Fast Eddie', which was apparently an...

This looks absolutely awesome! Do you mind divulging how you achieved this paint finish? 🎨

    1996 Voodoo Wanga

Bit of a thread resurrection, but does anyone know anything about the rigid forks that came with these? Were they 410mm a to c like Konas or were these frames designed for shorter standard spinner type forks?

Claud Butler Cape Wrath History Timeline 1987-1997

Certainly does - really odd that they happen to be the right year. It seems to have been an old boy's neighbourhood cruiser since around 95. He said he'd bought it that way and I believe him - he didn't know what he had & it was a steal. Couldn't see the drive side on the ad so was slightly...

Claud Butler Cape Wrath History Timeline 1987-1997

Excuse the rough photo, but here is your missing link - a 1993 picked up earlier this week! Your thread was a really great help in identifying this - it seems the frame is identical to the 94. Distinguishing frame details include the distinctive 'triangle' top tube braze ons and the same thick...

    1995 Raleigh M-Trax Ti1000

Nice to see it up and running - a bit of a Trigger's broom until you've established a theme! I like that you put modern gears and tyres on like a rider though - 2 extra cogs never upset the retro ethos imo. I can't decide why the P2s look so wrong, are they bent?

Re: Thanks, I thought it went under the radar a bit.. I've spent loads of time with it now & I really think these frames were gems - it's probably the same as the Protrax, and as someone else mentioned that was full Tange DB for 97. I have to say the Charge Splashbacks are more show than go...

    1995 Raleigh M-Trax Ti1000

Re: I'll be interested to hear how it rides one way or another.. How heavy did it feel stripped down? There's another modern/retro build on here somewhere of one of these that looks really nice.

    1995 Raleigh M-Trax Ti1000

Re: Nice to see you're cracking on! Mine's been sitting a year or so. Are those 410mm P2s? I think the shorter ones would be better suited to the geometry, but then there's a school of thought that it makes no difference.. Also, is it me or does the rake look massive? I'm in favour of...

    1995 Raleigh M-Trax Ti1000

Re: I have one of these awaiting attention too! Looks to be original except shifters, forks and handlebars - originals are titanium I believe. Nice 'sleeper' bikes & good to know the frame was the same up the range, so well worthy of some better components. Apparently it's more or less the...

    Saracen T*fftrax 1997

Thanks. All the Saracen colours of this era were basically gorgeous! I can see this replacing the Lava Dome as my go to bike - it's already 2lbs+ lighter. The Kona also has a rattle can bodge paint job courtesy of the previous owner, so there's that going for it too..

OK - so this is only really 'early' in the sense that any later it would have been a garish 40lb monstrosity, but: https://flic.kr/p/25r9xD3 https://flic.kr/p/25r9t9b https://flic.kr/p/25ab2dM Freshly built and surprisingly light for a Tufftrax at a shade over 24lbs! Worth it for the powder...

A Torus Titanium Find Now Finished

Re: If the welder has ensured the weld filled the cracks, you should be able to grind it flush - at least on the seat tube. With a bit of patience it could be disguised quite well..

    Saracen T*fftrax 1997

Just been out on the maiden voyage - first impression is that it's a fast bike! Acceleration and climbing are snappy, even if I do live in a county with no hills.. I can't believe how light it is for steel too - I thought these frames were a bit lardy, but it's built up into a respectably...
